New prices 4/30/12
Moderator: admin
Back to the topic...If prices go up I will just have to increase my hourly charge...Oh wait!!! ...I'm retired, I don't get to charge hourly....bummer.
Shopsmith sets it's prices on what they hope to be a fair return, and I will purchase items based on what I believe to be affordability. Time will tell if the two shall meet.
Ronald Reagan, who I remember as a poor governor but a rather accomplished president, is noted for his paraphrased statement: much can be accomplished if you don't care who gets the credit.
Our "leaders" (on both sides) seem to have forgotten the concept.
I wish my children and grandchildren well.

Gloating he said, "I feel fortunate that I was able to swing the DIY PowerPro, Double Tilt and new casters before the increase. And, on top of that the Lowes discount without state sales tax!"reible wrote:When I came on line today I expected to see at least a dozen posts about price increases, so what happened?

I'm afraid that government statistics are just that. I've attached a few articles regarding permits below and in one of them you can see that permits issued previously were claimed in 2011. Kind of like unemployment statistics from the Bureau of Labor Statistics when you don't count unemployed folks because they are "no longer looking for work." Only the government could issue a statistic saying the unemployment rate declined in a month when fewer people were employed than the month before, as was the case earlier this year. Moreover, fewer people are employed today than when Obama took office!
Here is an excerpt from an article written in mid-January of this year from this web site on oil leases ( http://rlch.org/news/federal-leasing-oi ... w-api-says )
"The Interior Department sold just over 600 new oil and gas leases on public lands in Western states in 2011, the lowest total in at least a quarter-century, according to a new report commissioned by the American Petroleum Institute.
While Interior reported issuing 1,461 leases last year in energy-producing states including Colorado, Montana, New Mexico, North Dakota, Utah and Wyoming, the majority of those leases were originally sold years ago and had been held up by legal challenges, the report says.
The Bureau of Land Management last year released about $50 million worth of backlogged leases in Wyoming after evaluating their impacts on sage grouse and other resources, the agency said.
The leases were tallied as "issued" in 2011, even though they may have been sold in previous years, API argued in a report accusing the Obama administration of restricting access to public lands.
In addition, BLM issued 3,851 new drilling permits in the five states in 2011, a slight dip below the 2009-2010 average but 40 percent below the final two years of the George W. Bush administration.
"Federal lands policies are slowing the development of vitally needed energy," said Kyle Isakower, API's vice president of regulatory and economic policy, in a statement. "This undermines America's energy security and deprives the nation of a much needed spur to job creation and economic growth."
And, here is excerpt regarding oil permits in the Gulf of Mexico from the end of February from this site ( http://www.nationalreview.com/campaign- ... t-slowdown )
"Yesterday, I reported on Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal pointing out that during a late winter of skyrocketing gasoline prices, the president who keeps taking credit for increased domestic oil production has actually slowed the approval of leases and permits in the Gulf of Mexico to a crawl.
A report by Greater New Orleans Inc., an organization of businesses large and small in Southeast Louisiana, lays out how the Obama administration is approving only a fraction of the new permits, significantly less than preceding administrations in both deepwater projects and shallow water projects, that getting approval from Obama’s Department of Interior takes much longer than before he took office, and how Obama’s administration rejects a much higher percentage of proposals for drilling than before he took office."
You can find these stories all day long on the internet. Unfortunately, ABC, NBC and CBS can't find the time to report the facts. But they do have time to tout Obama's claims of increased oil production.

Who owns ABC, CBS and NBC? What is their party affiliation?
Does any of this explain why Fox News and Obama have just a warm relationship?
I'm not sure just how but somehow this must be related to the price increases at Shopsmith.
BTW, the price increase was NOT across the board. The parts that I ordered right before the 30th are all still priced the same in the online catalog.
How's that for getting back on topic?

Yep, it was about Shopsmith's increase in prices until someone brought in the price of oil, as well as the supply there of and politics with this: "Gas prices (yesterday $3.79 here) are not due to lack of oil supply which is currently at an all time high in the US as much as the fact that many of my overseas friends (several in Sweden) are telling me that they are paying the equivalent of $8 to $10 dollars US at the pump. Such is world demand. That Keystone pipeline that I keep hearing guys talk about like it is going to make gas almost free is not being built for our supply, it is planned (and openly stated) for export.."
And then, because someone suggests a need to drill more for oil, we're accused of wanting to plunder a natural resource. And then, it's suggested we're 6th graders if we want to opine on a subject. Really, who's acting childish in all of this. Besides, the 6th grader is in the White House.

I get easily discouraged about the cost of things these days. But I get even more discouraged when I think about the sorry state of manufacturing in this country. When I think about the folks at Shopsmith showing up for work everyday, and I know they are operating on a shoestring, and we all know that they are short-staffed which often means employees carrying a very heavy workload, I am very grateful for their hardwork and their determination to survive. I get an enormous amount of pleasure from my Shopsmith. Times are still tough. They have taken great risks with the PowerPro, which they rolled-out in the midst of one of the worst economic downturns in recent history, while recovering from a bankruptcy. They really are showing the kind of backbone that made this country a great manufacturing power at one time. It isnt easy, it isn't always nice, and it sure isn't cheap. I will buy what I can, when I can and hope and pray that others will do the same so that someday Shopsmith will have a 100th anniversary sale!!

I agree with most of you I will still purchase what I can when I can. I was saving for the double tilt also but now it will take longer to save up. So did not get it last year might not get it this year. Time will tell. But still love my SS machines.

Wow, today May 1, the Fed Ex man drove up to my door and handed me the double tilt upgrade I ordered at a Lowes demo the first Thursday in March. Given the new price $260.10 cents is well worth it. Now I will be forced to tear up the shop and upgrade my 50th Anniversary 520 to a Mark 7. Such is life, I thank God I was able to do this upgrade at this point in time. Jim
