Here where I live we get our property taxes near the 1st. of May. When the envelope arrives we hold our breath and slice open the "news". We have been in this house for a long while now. One thing we have learned is the taxes NEVER go down. Those of us on fixed incomes know that feeling quite well.
Well, guess what we found this year?
Our tax bill is down! We are now back at 2006 rates!
Now that is not enough for too many tools but it was good enough for this puppy

I've wanted one of these from before the existed. I was part of a focus group some years back for Porter Cable. This is one of those items I pushed for but thought I would never see much less own. Took a while for them and for me but it happened! I'm also glad I didn't go for the AL machined one for the PC310....
I know this section of the forums should not have woodworking related things so I can't tell you anything else about how smooth it plunges etc. Sorry rules are rules.

Sat here thinking about it and got myself kind of depressed...
Just got the bills for both and what I pay a year in property taxes and property insurance a year would basically buy me 2 Power-pro's a year.
I have already dropped coverage on most of the buildings. Liability is the bear. Price shopping insurance doesn't help either.
They won't let me price shop the property taxes.

Property taxes here are running about what they have for the last 10 years, give or take a few bucks...(about twice what I paid in northwest Indiana. I bought a repo accross the street for my mother...contested the tax bill and got it lowered $400. A pleasant surprise when the bills came.

Property Taxes...this is one thing that we can not blame on the Federal Government. Look to your local City Council, you'll be able to find someone there to blame.
Actually, I was sorta relieved this year...property taxes went down (a little bitty bit).
BUT water and sewer bills went up enough to balance the scale several times over and the electric company is threatening to come get anything that I still have left in my bill fold.

Considering the 'fact' that the housing market is 'depressed' I would think it reasonable to expect property taxes based on property 'value' to also be 'depressed'!

Well, property taxes continue to go up in Florida. After Hurricane Ivan, many folks fled the area, but more came in. And, the taxes go up every year. Before our current governor, they doubled the Homestead Exemption, but it has a catch. The initial exemption is for the first $25K of property value. When they added on the second, the spenders in Tally made sure that if your house is assessed under $50K, you only qualify for the first $25K, not the second. So, when they drive by, they decide by your neighborhood what your house is to be assessed at. Your house may be of $300K market value, but assessed at $49K, homestead exemption is only on the first $25 of the assessment. And, we have this wonderful state lottery to go to the schools. Yet, my property taxes on 4 pieces of real estate are almost 70% for the school programs. Yet, children are required to bring paper towels, toilet paper, chalk, hand soap and other things that my school provided in the 1950's. Seems so strange to me. Maybe, I'm the one whose screwed up! LOL
Congratulations, Ed, on winning such a neat prize. Maybe, someday.
