Gee whiz all the poor guy wanted was to know what screws Shopsmith recommended. I would think it would be easy enough for someone that has the guard on their SS to simply remove the screws and take a pic or give a description of them.

Sure you can use any screw that will do the job but if you want to keep your SS in original mode you must use the exact screws SS normally uses here.
Any one in original car restoration can appreciate this.

If he wants to keep it in original mode, he won't want to equip it with a hub cover!

The later photo was not of OEM parts either. Those were parts that I had in my hardware grab bag.

You are correct regarding the parts description. That had not yet been communicated. He had asked for photos and all I had were the Amazon photos; a button head screw of the correct description.

Part numbers for the parts in question did not surface until someone had the foresight to check PowerPro drawings. Paul owns a PowerPro thus I assume he has the same drawings that I referred to. It was from those borrowed drawings that I learned the part numbers.

Shopsmith sent him what he ordered. He ordered the hub cover and he got it. What he did not get was the mounting hardware. If he wants it from Shopsmith, he should have to order it. If not, he can go to a hardware store and get it.

As for the instructions, they are complete and accurate. All you have to do is read them without bias. If he needs to drill holes, I think he knows how to do that without detailed instructions from Shopsmith.

As for lack of quality during 510 days - I don't know where you are coming from. I have a 510 and I find it to be top quality]

I'm not going to into detail but if you read the thread I believe it could be taken as insulting to the people that asked question. However my comments weren't aimed at you but rather by answers I considered to be rather smart butted. Although and since you asked I will say from what I saw you did play a part in some of the possible confusion.

What I objected to was some people more or less said go get a screw or do we have to tell you what one looks like? Others said take it ( guess the whole assembly) to the hardware store so you can match it etc.

The problem I see is Shopsmith rightly or wrongly never sent Paul the instructions he needed. I say rightly because perhaps this is just a repair part and SS never anticipated anyone to retro install the guard. Wrongly if SS was selling this as an upgrade they never supplied the complete installation instructions or listed all the needed parts.

As for the 510 I don't know when you ordered you 510 upgrade but I ordered mine after all install problems/quality problems should have been solved. Yet it took SS 3 main tables, 2 or 3 fence rails, one or two connector tubes, another fence and a few assorted parts to get my upgrade to the point that I would accept it.

It still wasn't right and in fact my main table is still warped far more than I think it should be. Because I live in a city that once had a SS store and know more than just a few Shopsmithers and we have talked, almost to a person the feeling was at the time of the 510 that Shopsmith quality had taken a sharp decline. If you didn't see a decline in quality that be thankful but many people I ran into did. The number of replacement parts Shopsmith had to send me speaks for itself.

Thankfully that situation was later reversed and I think Shopsmith did a super Job on the 520. In fact I often said the 510 should have been pulled from production when the 520 got perfected.

Back to this thread. Frankly if I have been a new guy asking the question and had gotten some of the answers Paul did I would never haved returned to this forum.

I don't think any of us want that impression to prevail.

So no I didn't step on anything. I call them like I see them. Perhaps you are not standing where I'm and are not seeing what I am.

Ed, Please read posts #22 and #24. Paul was aware of what he had ordered and what was not included. He did not get blind sided.

The parts in question are most likely unique to the PowerPro and the PowerPro parts list has not been made available online.

When I had the manual, I thought about copying the illustrated parts list and posting it online but decided against doing that since it is a current manual and it is copyrighted.

The parts do not even show when working on shopsmith.com.

So how about a summary of the parts in question. We know one screw is a 1/4-20 x 5/8" button head with a 5/32" socket.
What about the 'other'?

What size are the washers(other than one fits a 1/4" screw).

I assume the current production has one pierced hole with 1/4-20 threads. What is the other???

We are belaboring this, but it is information needed as long as someone wants to 'upgrade' to the guard and SS does not sell a upgrade 'kit' with all parts and proper instructions.

I surmise the need to tap thin sheetmetal is a deterrent to a kit being created!

But as far as I found, SS doesn't have that upgraded listed.
