Is the serial number the manufacturing date like 013012 (Jan 30, 2012)?
meaning there is no way to tell how many have been made
Somewhere, during the last couple days, I read something that said they have built about 500 PowerPro headstocks.
I found it! It is an excerpt from Shopsmith.com/new Products:
Shopsmith PowerPro
The Ultimate Upgrade For Your Mark V
It's now been about a year since we first introduced the new Shopsmith PowerPro Headstock Upgrades... and the response to Shopsmith's Ultimate Upgrade has been outstanding, to say the least. To date, over 500 of these incredible upgrades have been ordered... and Customer Reviews have been nothing short of fantastic.

Remembered to look when in the shop today. I bought the Do it yourself kit. The Kit came with new decals for the case. Included was a new serial number which I installed on the lower front of the headstock - just below the new warning decal. Can't remember if the new serial number was part of that decal or not, but it looks like it was.
Now my headstock has two serial numbers. The original is below the aux spindle.

My 50th anniversary and power pro head stocks have the serial number in the same locations (as previously posted) and in the same format (in example 10-20-10). Another mystery solved.
I apologize if my posts this week are a bit cryptic. My loving bride fell on the hill behind the shop with a gas powered weed whacker in hand. Fortunately there was no injury related to the trimmer. Still she broke her left ankle in three places. For a couple of days we operated under the impression she would require surgery to set the bones. At this point the surgeon has cast the break and we wait a week to discover the next step. I do apologize if I have injured any feelings and confess that the stress of making her comfortable and keeping up with family chores does take a toll. Jim
