I've been reading this thread with great interest being over here in the UK.

It's been a few years since I owned a diesel vehicle - a small Citroen Berlingo van - and I was always impressed by the ridiculous distances I could travel on one tank. But I've never heard of UREA injection. We just go to the pump & fill up with diesel like we would with petrol/gas*.

Well not just like that - disposable plastic gloves are provided at the pump which you must remember to use on the trigger hand. Not like me with the company van last month - my hand was stinking for the rest of the journey:mad:

Are there big differences between European & US emissions requirements? I'd always thought the technology was broadly similar. As for consumption, I believe there are differences in fuel formulation which I suppose will have some effect. Maybe the biggest difference is in the transmission - most vehicles in Europe are manual with the opposite true in the US. Having owned both I have no doubt that manual delivers significantly better mileage than auto.

Point to note; diesel was traditionally cheaper than gas here (lower tax rate) & you get better mileage. So when the cleaner, quieter engines & cost benefits made diesel cars very popular, the Government increased the tax on diesel so it's now more expensive by volume than gas, although still cheaper per mile.

You've just gotta love those Government Guys!

Gotta agree with Francis. There are quit a few things us older folks can do that we couldn't years ago. Some can even whistle while they brush their teeth.;)

When my grampa was in his 80's he used to say he gets stronger every day. He used to be able to spend $20 at the grocery store and it took 5 guys to carry it out. Then he got to where he could lift $20 worth of groceries with one hand.
