I'm new to this forum but not to Shopsmith. My first one was an ER10 which I rebuilt from the ground up in '84. When I moved 2 years later I sold it and probably made 10 cents an hour for the work I put into it. A friend gave me his dad's Goldie, which was pretty trashed; he didn't need it because he had a Mk V in great condition. I put Goldie back together so that it was usable and then in '97 picked up a Mk VII that had hardly been used. It took very little to get that one in excellent condition. I don't know where it had been stored but there was almost no rust and cleaning and lubrication was all that was needed. Now I have a 510 that I'm refurbishing.
Which brings me to the point of all this: I was in the process of major maintenance on the Mk VII when I inherited the 510. What prompted all this was a need to replace the V-Belt. I also replaced the bearings on the drive shaft, cleaned the motor and everything else and put it back together. It won't start. Just hums, even with the motor out of the machine. Maybe it is just the capacitor or something simple but I'm not messing with it. The quill bearing was replaced less than 50-75 hours ago.
Therefore, I've decided to part it out. This machine has been well maintained and the only thing missing is the dust collector. I'll take pictures of various parts for anyone who is interested.
If anyone wants the complete headstock (you won't know until you see some pictures) I will sell it and not charge for the motor, just the extra shipping cost for that. You may solve the problem and make out like a bandit. But you didn't have to hold a gun to my head.
It will be awhile before I get everything disassembled and have a complete listing of parts. I want to get this 510 completely restored first. PM me if you have an interest in anything.

I offer my apologies for not responding sooner. Everything takes longer than anticipated. That's why a quickie. . .well, never mind about what doesn't happen.
My prices will be about 15% less than on eBay and I've posted the actual weight of the items (add about $1.50 for the weight of packaging and delivery to USPS or UPS about 5 miles.) I will ship the lowest rate and let you know what it is prior to shipment.
Payment will be through personal check and after it has cleared the bank the shipment will be made. Sorry, but I was ripped off by someone I shipped a manual to and only asked that he reimburse me $4.75 for the postal fees. His integrity was worth less than $4.75. I don't trust anyone and neither should you. If you want to pay with PayPal we can arrange that but it will cost an additional 7% (which is close to the PayPal fee).
