So I'm getting into refurbing the last few accessories that came with my '55 Greenie, and one of them is an air compressor. This little fella:
I didn't get the spray gun with it though, just the wheels and belt to attach it to the headstock. I'm gonna open it up this weekend and see what needs to be cleaned/replaced (and hopefully I can still get some parts for it if needed).
My question is, once I get this thing working, what kind of spray gun can I use with it? I plan to use it with finishing guitars, and I would assume that it would be compatible with most sprayers?
Do you have the manual that is pictured? It explains about the gun in there. No belts required to attach to headstock - just hook it up to the lower spindle with the power coupler, as pictured below. What looks like a pulley on it is just a flywheel. I use mine regularly to blow out stuff and to inflate my inflatable contour sander, bike tires, etc. I have not done any spray finishing with it yet. If you need a new diaphragm you can get 3/32" fabric reinforced neoprene in 12" x 12" sheets for under 7 bucks at McMaster Carr. Alec

Gotcha, that's good info. I do have the manual, but haven't got into it yet as I haven't picked the compressor up off the shelf since I brought it home. Good to know I can get some replacement material for the diaphragm though. I'll have to look for the garden hose couplers.
That spray gun looks like a good fit. Don't worry about the garden hose fittings. The compressor has a regular 1/4" fitting - you can use a typical 1/4" hose from the compressor to your gun. The garden hose fitting are at one end of each of the hose lengths that Magna supplied with the gun. The other ends are 1/4 ". The idea was that you could add a section of garden hose between the two hoses supplied (in the middle) to increase length. If there is no need for additional length, the two hoses attach together with the typical garden hose fittings, as equipped. Alec
