Not sure if these are different than the ones you are talking about, but Black and Decker still lists the Piranha saw blades for sale on their website, and I am sure I saw them at my local Lowe's or Home Depot this morning when I was looking at purchasing some additional saw blades for my 83 Mark V. Just do not remember which one I saw them at; however when searching both Lowe's and Home Depot websites they are not listed. Granger industries however shows them to be in-stock at this time. Granger Industries is also the company B&D sends you to when you click on their "buy now" button for the 10" piranha saw blades.rlkeeney wrote:I have a piranha blade I have had for a long time. I really liked it. The one I have says it was designed for cutting pressure treated wood what ever that means. I was disappointed when I discovered that I could not buy them anymore. Mine has odd hooked shaped carbide teeth.

1962 Magna Corporation Mark V Goldie (Serial #379277); 1983 Shopsmith Mark V Model 500 (Serial #165199, w/bandsaw & joiner), Shopsmith 20" Scroll saw w/stand (Serial #030191), and Shopsmith DC3300 dust collection system. Taking my time, learning all I can and making a big mess!

camero68---You are very right!! they are so smooth going either cross or rip! I'll be ordering a 5/8 arbor from SS pertty soon. I just need to get another project finished!
tgamel---the teeth are difinatly different and better on the older blades. I realize B&D were probably losing money producing the teeth and other brands were able to bring the current style of teeth to market cheaper.....hench, B&D had to do something to keep up. If they ever get enough support to bring the original design back, and raise the price, I will buy more and hope I can still get them as long as I can safely work with wood!!

I wonder if this is the kind of approach Freud is doing with their 'Diablo' series of blades sold at Home Depot. They appear to be a bit cheaper that the actual 'Freud' brand, and seem more geared towards general commercial construction applications, I wonder how these two types of blades would compare with each other in the home shop arena....brick1 wrote:camero68---You are very right!! they are so smooth going
