table saw squeals and blade stops when ripping wood

I have a headstock that the quill arbor slowed and stopped operarting under heavy load. The too loose high speed adjustment allowed the control sheave to move too far foward to where the belt was only rubbing on the idle shaft. not the sheave vanes. The sheaves were not rubbing the belt. By decreasing the high speed adjustment. the two sheaves came closer together providing postive belt tension with both sheaves. The control sheave should have around 1/16' clearence between the speed control assembly. Please contact me if any questiuons. Thanks,

Please also perform the fence alignment as Dusty suggested. I was having this problem as well as burning wood during cuts and found I was using excessive force to rip material (excessive force with any tool is always dangerous).

Aligning the fence did wonders!! Now I always have clean easy cuts and no bogging down. Based on the age of your machine you may want to either sharpen or replace your blade as well. Add a new/freshly sharpened blade to the fence alignment and all of a sudden you have a new machine!!

I removed the 5 screws holding the bottom pan to the headstock and one of the screw inserts fell to the bottom of the pan. Can anyone tell me how I can get to the bottom of the pan so I can get to the screw insert...and also clean the sawdust out of the pan? While I am in there would I be able to put on a new belt? I tried attaching a picture to this post to show the dilema I am in.

First reattach the pan to the headstock temporarily. Manually rotate the quill(use the sanding disk as a handwheel) while slowly increasing the speed control to fast.

Next slip the belt off the motor pulley(pulling the floating sheave out will allow the belt to go more slack).

Disconnect the motor wires from the power switch and the motor and pan will be free to travel. The clip should slip out with any accumulated dust. Blow the rest out. Squeeze the clip so it will not fall the next time.
