Boy! This discussion has really taken off. Lots of discussion and opinions. I can't really say where I stand on this because I believe there are a lot more details yet be uncovered and determined with all of this health care reform. Like others have stated, we will have to wait and see how this all pans out. I often thought socialized medicine (like that of our Canadain neighbors) would be better than a market based medical system we have here in the US. But from some of the things I've read, that system also has its pros and cons as well.

As for immigration, I do have a big problem with all this acceptance of allowing illegal immigration. And, I see this health care reform as just another means to solidifying that end and a president going after yet another minority vote to get re-elected. It has nothing to do with what is right or wrong/legal or illegal, it is just about buying the vote. Career Politicians doing what they do best to gain a position of power over everybody else. It is not really a hate thing because I can't knock somebody for trying to better themselves and their life. But, we do have laws in this country on how to legally immigrate and become a member of our society (thus the difference between legal and illegal). I read someplace that a law is only a law if it is enforced. If it is not enforced, it is nothing more than just writing on paper.

My second (biggest) objection to all this immigration has more to do with an over population issue that we and every other country in the world is experiencing. But, I will leave that subject alone for now (not really part of this discussion).

I say we all take a deep breath and give the current administration a chance to implement their plans and if they don't improve life for everyone in 4 years, kick the bums out, in the meantime, let's all try to get along.

I'm just saying the previous administration had it's 8 years to get us to where we were 3 years ago, so it's only fair to give the current administration it's 8 years. Don't you agree

Just this minute is now stands at $15,829,139,000,000. That's five trillion, two hundered billion dollars in 3 yrs, 5 months, and 10 days. My kids and grandkids and their children can't afford another four years.

Yep, I agree. Case in point, the one that is most important to me as I near retirement. The value of my IRA's. Four years ago the S&P was at 6,150. Today it's closing in on 13,000. Most of my retirement income will be coming from my IRA's. I rest my case

In all fairness, I think a major reason the deficit looks like it went up so dramatically under Obama is that he stopped the Bush policy of paying for 2 wars off-budget with special spending appropriations that were not part of the budget. When Obama took office, he put the wars back on the regular budget and, boom, the deficit sky rocketed.

I got up on the soap box and began to rant about this. Then, all of a sudden I was cut off. I had written too much. I began to read and then decided to spare ya'll. I deleted my entire rant.

Just do me a favor, please. Pay close attention to those who are running for election/reelection this year. Get yourself well informed. Get your information from a variety of sources. Listen to the opposing view points and then GO VOTE.
