I know some of you own GUNS but this is something to think about...

If you don't have a gun, here's a more humane way to wreck someone's evil plans for you. Did you know this? I didn't. I never really thought of it before. I guess I can get rid of the baseball bat.

Wasp Spray - A friend who is a receptionist in a church in a high risk area was concerned aboutsomeone coming into the office on Monday to rob them when they were counting the collection. She asked the local police departmentabout using pepper spray and they recommended to her that she get a can of wasp spray instead.

The wasp spray, they told her, can shoot up to twenty feet away and is a lot more accurate, while with the pepper spray, they have to get too close to you and could overpower you. The wasp spray temporarily blinds an attacker until they get to the hospital for an antidote. She keeps a can on her desk in the office and it doesn't attract attention from people like a can of pepper spray would. She also keeps one nearby at home for home protection. Thought this was interesting and might be of use.

On the heels of a break in and beating that left an elderly woman in Toledo dead, self defense experts have a tip that could save your life.

Val Glinka teaches self-defense to students at Sylvania Southview High School. For decades, he's suggested putting a can of wasp and hornet spray near your door or bed.

Glinka says, "This is better than anything I can teach them."

Glinka considers it inexpensive, easy to find, and more effective than mace or pepper spray. The cans typically shoot 20 to 30 feet; so if someone tries to break into your home, Glinka says "spray the culprit in the eyes". It's a tip he's given to students for decades.

It's also one he wants everyone to hear If you're looking for protection, Glinka says look to the spray. "That's going to give you a chance to call the police; maybe get out." Maybe even save a life.

So if your grandson decides to spray your granddaughter all you have to do is rush your granddaughter to the hospital and everything will turn out ok. I don't think I would leave this stuff sitting out on your desk or countertop or next to your bed unprotected.

When you need the cops immediately, they are only minutes away. In most cases they're too many minutes away.

In any event, that hornet spray sounds like a smart idea for personal protection. I'll try to verify the mice-killing potential. I've got some mice in the shed that I'm reluctant to poison out of concern that the cat will then eat one. So we'll have to see if this stuff really works. The groundhog that lives under the shed and thinks the plywood floor is a delicacy may be in for an awakening too.

We are 21 miles from the cop house. In our case, the Sheriff's office. Just a 911 call away. Depending on where they are within the county, it could be 30 minutes.
Just the two of us here. No children around. No friends with kids, either. When the grandkids are around, the fire arms are out of reach and locked.
Most of the time, there's at least one close by. And, as we are licensed to carry, there is one in each of the vehicles, too.
I will keep some of the wasp killer handy for snakes and such, though. No sense wasting ammo on varmints.

In our neighborhood the other day, a young lady stopped by with her 2 year old to visit her Marine boyfriend. Good man and good mother. However, he left a gun loaded and within reach of the child. The mother and boyfriend went to the kitchen for food and the child was curious and yes, he shot himself. The news tonight indicates the child is recovering. So please keep them loaded but out of reach of tiny heads who don't know the danger.

On a side note, been taking my grandson to Jiu Jitsu. Amazing how you can actually crack someone's coconut in a second, causing serious injury quickly and allowing you to escape. Here's how. If you can trip the person from inside or outside the leg, drop that person. If you hold on, they have some ability to keep from hitting their head on the concrete. That's because they don't know how to fall with protection. For trained folks, you don't hold onto the opponent. You spread your arms out and hold up your head. However, I really like the idea of wasp spray.

Goodness with so much violence whether intentional or accidental, I find myself praying for a peaceful world where we can learn patience and understanding. Then find ways to reach out to those less fortunate. Wouldn't it be marvelous if everyone in the world could sleep tonight in a warm dry place with a pillow for their head and a full stomach. Jim
