Back side/inside of PowerPro control panel?

Realistically speaking, I am not expecting any sort of plug & play at this point. Based on the photos, it looks like the pin count for the keypad is different, so there is some adaptation there most likely no matter what.

Beyond that, I need to dig out the multimeter, oscillosope and logic analyzer to verify how the interface works. From the photos it appears there are 10 pins on the nova one, and looks to be more on the shopsmith one (perhaps 17...haven't checked yet). If thats the case, then each button has its own line, and adapting may be pretty easy. Also, adding a confirm press might also be feasible

One evening a week or so ago Diana and I were watching TV. The only remote was as always laying on the table between us touching nothing. Only the two of us were in the house and we have no close neighbors.
Without warning the volume indicator screen thingy kicked up on the TV and it then clicked itself down about 6 numbers and went away.

After looking at each other a minute we turned it back up to where we could hear it...

I think I want my machinery to stay all manual...

Hi,

When I look at this idea I see a couple of problems, not saying they can not be over come but...

It is clear that some metal removal will be required in the shopsmith as part of some of the connectors are hidden. Second there is not a lot of room once the power supply is in place.

This is an attempt to show the space, while it doesn't do very much good it might help you to see what I mean.

I asked Teknatool if it worked via there customer support line (Help Desk). The answer I got today is below.

I am going to have to check with the NZ team if everything will work the same, I believe it will but I need to have confirmation on this as we have not actually physically hooked a remote up to the Shopsmith Power Pro. On Monday I will have an answer for you and who you are able to buy the remote from (Shopsmith or Teknatool).

The 'answerer' appears to not understand the question!

Has the look/feel of a marketing answer, not a technical one.

I predict the follow up will be 'no'. I do not think Nova wishes to get into the hobbyist modification scene.

Then they would not have done the upgrade for the Nova lathe.

His reply sounded to me like they were working with Shopsmith to make the upgrade awaitable, this could just be wishful thinking. I will know Monday.

By 'hobbyist' upgrade, I was alluding to what Damagi is considering, not a mfr designed upgrade kit.

I too saw that glimmer of hope!

I will be really surprised if Shopsmith touches this at all.

The thought of giving the PowerPro remote turn on capability just scares me to death.

Nope. I don't want one on my table saw, drill press or lathe.

With some experience with the PP I guess my question with the desire to have a remote . . . "is it the technical challenge or is there some REAL practical application." If it there is a useful application would, or could, someone define what it is?
There may very well be a compelling application justifying a remote, however I just can't picture why I would want to be far enough from my headstock so that a remote would be of practical use.
