The PP has Lightnin' bolts on it.... how can Lightnin' not get one.
They are just taunting me..... that's it...
I have airbrushed lightnin' bolts before and loved the results....
They would look good on the legs of a Mark V....
I can see the beautiful machine just sittin' there in a huge pile of shavings now.

They are TAUNTING me... at some Shopsmith corporate meeting they knew I would be a hard sell
they decided to put lightnin' bolts on the darn thing....
Just to taunt me..... How did they know? How did they know?
........Paranoia....
Bruce

I didn't know what a Shopsmith was...
Three days later I owned one...
One week later I was rebuilding one...
Four months later I owned two....
Ok Ok, I'm up to four now...

Demo

The jamming the Oak in the saw and not bogging the machine down was quite the demonstration. ONe of the group made a comment about him not using a push stick. He is definitely the polished presenter. It's gotta help that he has some new wares to offer.

Would love the upgrade, but the money isn't there for it. I was amazed at how quiet it is was, but it always seems noisier in my garage since it is closed in.

Also, I was the youngest person at the demo by about 30-40 years.
Went to the demo last night at the Plymouth Lowes, one of two people watching. I thought about the lift assist but I can't justify the $$ for the PP upgrade at this time. I had a shop full of tools before I got the SS so it's less a 'need' upgrade at this time. I did enjoy watching the machine in operation though and it was surprisingly quiet.
SS Mark V, 10" cabinet saw, 10" RAS, 8" jointer, 16"x 60" lathe, DP, 12" & 18" BS, Molding machine, 2 planers, belt/disk sander, numerous others.

It is my opinion that one cannot "justify" the cost of either the PowerPro or the Mark 7. It must be purchased just because it is wanted. There is, IMHO, nothing about the machine that justifies that kind of expenditure. It is just another Shopsmith.

If the price has to be justified, buy a hand saw. If you just have to have the PowerPro or Mark 7, just go get it. I'm just waiting for that day when "I go get it". It will come.

I see Mike Y is at West St Paul Lowes next week. I'd go, I enjoy seeing the machine in action...but I have no intention of buying at this time and there is seldom enough cover at the demo to just watch while hiding from the high pressure and sarcasm of the sales pitch

All I can reccommend is go early in the schedule and over lunch time. There were about 5 other guys and I left when one starting working on the order paperwork.

As Dusty said, price wise it is hard to justify, espcially when I have a shop of dicounted Used Shopsmith equipment. The interesting thing was most of the others at the demo already had 520s. I wish I did too, but even the upgrade for the 510 to 520 is hard for me to justify when I have a table saw that cost as much as the upgrade and does that one feature very well.

If I had the money available, I'd probably goo all in, but I'm guessing Dusty would too. Looks like a nice piece of equipment - especially if you want to turn 300 pound logs :)

You have me pegged completely. If I had discretionary funds available right now, I would have a new Mark 7 with with a lift assist and an overarm pin router.

I don't and probably won't have that kind of funds available. But I am NOT going to do without.

I am currently working on a plan to purchase the dual tilt upgrade. Why? Because I think the mechanical changes that lead to a dual tilt will also stabilize the Bench and Way Tubes and in so doing will improve overall stability.

I know there are some dissenters but when the funds come available, I will do just that. I'll make my Mark V Model 520 into a 520+DT.

If this changes then leaves me needing more power of the shaper, the PowerPro will be that much closer to being in my future.

As it is now, I don't need to jam heavy oak pieces through the saw like Mike Young does it so I see no need right now for the PowerPro. I would appreciate a quieter headstock.

The link in this thread gives location and dates but no times I'd guess each event may be different but roughly how is this done.
Is there a presentation starting every two hours, is it audience based does it last all day or a few hours.
I just don't wanna miss it or hang around all day waiting.

The demos ran from 10a to 7p Thursday through Saturday. I'm pretty sure whenever you go, you'll see some part of the continuos loop of demo, chatting, writing up orders.

Here is a link to Mike Young's site with a description of the things he does at the event. He did the turning demo by jamming the chisel into the block to show how the machine didn't change. At noon on the first day he already had one completed turning and did the second while I was there. I would guess his demo takes 30 minutes to an hour and probably varies by how big the crowd is.

He did the lathe, tablesaw, double-tilt and lift assist demos while I was around.

I have worked enough overtime now to justify to my sweet wife spending the moo-la for a PP upgrade and double tilt.
Just to be safe I will keep workin' overtime for another month in case the salesman tricks me into more.
He may know some Jedi mind tricks or over power me and twist my arm really hard.
Feels like waiting on the trip to the zoo in first grade.

Dusty,

Don't feel alone; I'm doing the same thing.
