Wood Box Project
The attached picture is of a box designed to hold scrap or highly valued wood left from projects. This particular box is made from 3/4" plywood. It is sized as 27" Wide, 17" Deep and varies from 36" high in the rear to 30" high in front. It contains one full width section in the back and three smaller divided section in the front of the box. The two smallest of those are for small but longer left overs and dowels. I took the liberty of attaching two shallow boxes to the outside front of the box. These for those many small pieces that are actually used most often in my shop. Yes the box is crude but very effecient and has 5" locking castors underneath. this box sits in front of one section of a double door. Yes my shop like others has run out of space. I hope this offers ideas for others. Jim

Looks like a 'solution' to a 'need'.
I do not see it as 'crude' either.
Looks pretty well thought out and fabricated to me!

Great job. BTW, you referred to the contents as scape but I did not see anything but lumber of various dimensions.

Where to scraps go after over a quarter century of storing?dusty wrote:NO NO NO, those are not scrapes.
Scrapes go in the fire place.
Those are cut offs.
Scraps, not good pieces.

Mine was built according to the space available and considering the sizes of treasures I desired to keep. The construction was very simple as I had little time to invest. The bottom was cut to fit inside sides, back and front, no fancy joinery. I used screws and glue to hold it together. I did cut dado's to accept the inner sections I desired. The higher back and lower front were in my feeble mind to allow easier vision for shorter pieces. The 36" height for the rear was determined by how long or high I dared make the unit and still be able to easily remove larger pieces. The wheels are due to my belief that everything in my shop needs to be easily moveable by a one armed ole guy. Have fun and remember what ever you can build now can be remodeled. Proof of that is when I began to load it up I discovered I neglected to create a home for really small pieces. Thus the two boxes I hurriedly cut and assembled. They are really cool. Please do post pics of you own creation. Jimgarys wrote:I like it. I need something like that too, but I can't decide how to build it. I have too many scraps (really good scraps) laying in my workshop, and I need to organize them so I can find the pieces I need.
Maybe some kind of storage box is what should be my first project this winter.
