My PowerPro is down...

Today in the shop I had been fabricating shelf parts out of some dimensional lumber. I used the molding head to cut a three bead pass on the edge of an 8' 2x4 that I had previously run through the jointer. I then set up the table saw to rip the piece of molding free of the 2x4 stock. I began to rip a short (approx. 22") test piece I had also molded, to test the thickness of the cut. As I was ripping it I thought that the PowerPro seemed rather weak! It frankly felt more like the old mechanical headstock in that it was bogging down a bit. I slowed my rate of feed, finished ripping and hit the off button. I was a bit disappointed with the performance of the PowerPro, but didn't give it much thought. In that I was pleased with the thickness of my test piece, I grabbed the finish piece and went to turn the PowerPro on. After hitting the confirm button in response to the usual prompt, the PowerPro failed to power up and just showed the following screen:

After a few minutes and several attempts to start the saw, it began playing it's cheery music jingle, and the screen switched from the one above to the following:

I know that a couple of you here have had the SRM screen appear and have been able to return the PowerPro to normal function by shutting off the power and restarting. Not so here. Everytime I try to start the saw I get the a screen like the first screen pictured, regardless of the speed chosen. I tried to call Shopsmith at 4:45, but they were already closed. Did you go though the troubleshooting for "SRM Not Rotate"?

Not much to check but it might help to have done it before your next call.

According to my manual "SRM not rotate" can be caused by a lose wire connection between the control board and the motor being loose. The manual also ststes that a workpiece may be jammed in a cutter and stalling the machine. (obviously not in this case). The third condition is damaged electronics which can only be repaired at the factory. Did you do a DIY kit or did you get a factory assembled unit. Mine was factory assembled and I did have a couple of screws that worked loose including the set screw on the large motor pully.

Thanks for the heads up. I did read that in the manual, but note that my "SRM not rotates" screen appears only after a long lock up at the first screen. I have not yet dropped the motor pan. Mine is a factory refurbished unit, not a DYI. I suspect I'll be shipping it back for repair. Alec

ps. I finished my job on my daughters goldie and felt delighted in winding the old mechanical speed control up to speed. Sometimes I think the old ways are still the best!!

Which is why I'm keeping my old headstock as a backup to my new PP and not selling it.:D

Got a manual with my DIY PowerPro. Don't know about factory assembled models.

I received a manual with my factory Power Pro. Came in a small three ring binder.
