Wood for turning

Post by ryanbp01 »

I made trip down to the town brush pile where we can drop off prunings. I came across some sycamore logs which looked pretty good. Has anyone ever used sycamore for turning?

I personally have not, but have seen may examples of sycamore turned.
Good find and can't beat the cost on that.

I have not turned sycamore. Several members of my turning club (Capital Area Woodturners) have and it can be very pretty. Especially if it is spalted. Good Luck and BE SAFE.

As a general rule of thumb.
Green wood is fun. Dried wood is work! ;-)

sycamore is a good work to work with, it turns like soft maple. but looks a lot nicer.
