I did not know that both FedEx and UPS had established business relationships with USPS for the final delivery of smaller and light items items but it does make some sense.

I have also noticed that I see the FedEx and UPS trucks in this area an awful lot less than I used to. The trucks are around town as much as before but they don't seem to venture in close as frequently. Maybe that is because of this; USPS is carrying the smaller items thus less FedEx or UPS visibility.

No matter. Today is the 10th day I have been waiting for my two drill bits from Syracuse, NY.

Two days later, I was able to find tracking information. Today I decided to follow up.

UPS Tracking shows that the order left Syracuse, NY on 9/1/2012 and finally arrived in Hodgkins, IL on 9/5/2012. That must be about 600 miles in 5 days. Brownie must be walking....UNBELIEVEABLE
FedEx does the same thing, maybe worse. Had stuff shipped "Next Day" guaranteed, yada yada. Actually got it over a week later. Seems "Next Day" means it will be delivered TO A FEDEX DEPOT within 2 days, period. So it sat in Utah, I think it was, for the week.
This has happened multiple times, both FedEx and UPS.
But NEVER USPS.
On average I get stuff shipped USPS regular faster than the other two "next day".
MASSIVE rip-offs going on.

Just remembered an oddity about Lee Valley. Tried to order something, shipping overly ridiculous, called and asked why not USPS. Got a story about how they're in Canada, so no access to USPS. So, okay I says, I wanted the thing, so I okayed the exorbitant shipping charge.
Imagine my overwhelming pleasure when the package arrived, way late, and the postage on the box was about half of what I paid, and the ship from address was in NEW YORK.
That was the last time I did business with the company.

Only lesson to be learned is do not count on quick delivery unless you pay for it.

Just to add something to this thread, I ordered a shutter release switch for my camera from a Chinese seller on E-Bay on August 31st and received it today. The item cost me $3.88 with free shipping and it was sent from Shenzhen Guangdong, China via China Post and arrived at 10am today via USPS. So, it really makes you wonder about shipping charges and delays.

Here's a good one for you. I ordered a bandsaw blade from AMAZON for my ShopSmith on September 2cnd. I am guaranteed 2 day shipping because I pay for it annually.
It leaves the SAME day from Arizona, and is shipped to .....Kentucky. Which is nice , but I live in.................Calfornia. I could have driven there in 4 hours and picked it up. It gets better. So it arrives in Kentucky in 2 days, and then they realize their mistake and turn it around back to California. via UPS ground.
At this point I'm not due to see it until the 11th or 12th.
I needed it last week so I could sell the bandsaw. I actually found an Olson brand blade today at a remote desert hardware store and snatched it up.
I called AMAZON and we were actually chuckling at the situation, but I did tell them I was pretty disappointed in the service. (I buy a lot from AMAZON) Of course they cheerfully refunded the entire amount of the order and asked me to keep the blade when it arrives next week. All is good, but Geez................

My order is "out for delivery" after being in Tucson since Friday at 1:01pm. Wonder why it didn't make the truck on Saturday.:(

The only way UPS does Saturday delivery is if you pay extra. And Saturday delivery is TWICE the price of Overnight.
So if it arrived at their depot Friday afternoon, and it's being delivered today, that is on-schedule.

OKAY....as long as it doesn't arrive today via USPS.
