The government today is a direct result of voting for the lesser of two evils. So why keep voting that way?
The problem I see with that line of thinking is that if you split the votes against Obummer guess who wins? I voted Libertarian last time and have regretted it every time I see that sneering face on TV or in the paper. If this guy wins again this country is doomed in the worst way. Get ready for full socialism. Or worse.

OK, so here's how I understand it. Every four years, you get to elect the guy who signs the laws and gets them implemented, the Executive. This guy is also the Head Of State. On the odd four years (Two years apart from the first eleciton), you get to elect the guys who write the laws that the other guy signs and implements, and the people who poney up the money to pay for it all, the Legislative.

You also have a Judiciary, who I understand are also elected, whose job it is to see that those laws get properly interpreted.

In Canada, the True North Strong And Free, we have a system where both the legislative (write laws and pay for them to be implemented) and the Executive (implements the laws) are combined, with the guy signing the law a mostly representative figurehead, subbing for the Queen (the Queen of Canada, who is also the Queen of England).

Then, of course, we have the judiciary, whose job seemingly is to take the laws (that the legislative branch has written, and arranged funding to be implemented, and which have been signed by the proper guy, in our case, the Governor-General, representing the Queen... of Canada, you have to stay with me on this folks, and are being implemented by the Executive, who is also running the Legislative), and re-interpret them in whatever way they like... this week.

So, you still think you have problems?

What a mess it is. Why don't they just say what the people of this country want to hear? All they do is point out the others faults, and how bad they think the other one is, and never say what they are actually going to do for this country moving forward.

At the present time I feel no one should vote for anyone. What would happen then? Hopefully that will send a clear messsage that we need some people in there who can actually do something for the country. I know voting is a great right for every American, but so is not voting if you feel that your vote will not help our country. Leaving that box blank on your ballot that is next to their names can send a very strong message if enough Americans agree to it.

Can't wait for the debates in October, it should be a riot LOL!

I think most politicians forget that they actually work for the American people and without a vote they will be out of office and forgotten.

The only wasted vote is the one that is not cast.
Derrick; The Canadian system is not vastly different from ours except that our Federal Judges are appointed. So if a flunky runs a store front campaign headquarters for a candidate and his guy wins then he can be rewarded with a federal judgeship or an ambassadorship in France or Switzerland or some other nice place not to mention a real lucrative pension.
My biggest fear of a second term for the Messiah is the possibility of as many as 4 more Supreme Court appointments. Then the Liberals/Progressives can appoint nice young judges that we will have to put up with for the next 40 years. I think that the Repubs should be concentrating a 60 seat majority in the Senate that would render the Messiah impotent. Then the Legislature can pass a law the He would veto but the Senate would have override capability and the Messiah will be a footnote.

The stock market has gone from 6,300 to a record breaking 13,450 in the last 4 years. My retirement funds come from IRA Bond Mutual Funds. My Funds have more than doubled in value in the last 4 years. I don't give a flip about all that other chatter, the only thing that I have a direct interest in is my dividends payments. I have a good job. I have health insurance. I have equity built up in my house. I couldn't be happier today. I couldn't say the same thing 4 years ago. :D

May good fortune continue to rain upon you. There was a time, in the not too distant past, that I could have, would have, probably did say all those same things. That is no longer the case. The world turned and I am now barely above water.

While you have something to save - search vigorously for safe places to keep it.

Be skeptical of any and all financial managers; most especially those that you are not thoroughly familiar with.

Dusty,

I trust no one. I do all my own investing on Fidelity's web site. They have great tools to guide you along the way. My investments have generated a constant 6% monthly dividend over the past 6 years even when my principle lost half of it's value 4 years ago. Since the dividends are based on the number of shares owned in the fund, it didn't affect my income when the market crashed. I did not touch the principle hoping the market would come back with the new administration installed and am glad I did. Sorry you had different results.

WOW !!! 6% per month !!! That would make a $1000 investment 6 years ago worth $250,000 now !! Fidelity would be king of the world if that were true ! Do you maybe mean 6% annualized? that would make it about average for investments.

My monthly income from a balance of $500,000 would be $2,500, or 6% times $500,000 for an annual distribution of $30,000. Not sure if I stated it properly but that is what I meant to say. Thanks for correcting my math :D
