What year is my SS?

Post by sailseahawk »

Hello,
My SS serial number is 260681, which appears to pre-date the serial number/year table on the shopsmith.com site.

It is certainly green, has not been repainted, has a 3/4 hp Franklin Electric Motor which looks to be of '54 vintage. The headstock had no maintenance hole in the back under the plate until I drilled one.

Power Switch is the old metal toggle switch.

Can anyone date my machine?

Thanks,
Seahawk

One of the first?

I'm wondering if your number predates those at the SS site because maybe early production records may not be all that accurate. If all the early production numbers are sequential, it's certainly one of the first machines.
My dad's 1951 10er, 2 more 10er's, same vintage, a Goldie MK5, a 510 shortie with 34inch tubes, bandsaw, jointer, jigsaw, belt sander, a ton of small SS goodies and still looking...you just can't have enough Shopsmith stuff
