A Sad Day for me

Post by billmayo »

I just found that my web site http://www.billstoolz.com has not been renewed. I will delete the web site from my information. I will have to see if it is possible to buy my web site name and set my web site up again without a lot of expenses. I will need help in this area If anyone has the experience and knowledge for this task.

My web site was set up, hosted and paid for by Dr Dave Light in 2007 for helping him in his shop and setting up videos for his Onlineshopclass web site. He had to close his shop due to advanced cancer in late 2008. He has supported, hosted and paid for my web site up until now. My web site Email addresses died last Sept. I will have to assume Dr Dave is no longer with us as his wife refused to let me offer any prayers, assistance, help or to visit Dr Dave. She would not accept that Dr Dave was dying. I will Email her again but doubt if I will get a response. Dr Dave was a really outstanding but difficult individual to understand. I loved working with him and he taught me many woodworking techniques and procedures when working with him in his shop. I really miss him.

Thanks.

A sad day indeed.

I don't know anything about hosting web sites but if there is anything else I can do, let me know.

Per the registration info (http://www.whois.com/whois/billstoolz.com)

Updated Date: 14-sep-2012
Creation Date: 13-sep-2006
Expiration Date: 13-sep-2013

So it is locked up until next year unless you can contact whoever is in control of that account. Contact info is available on that link, though who knows if its current or not. Technically you are supposed to update it every year.

So, the domain is there, what is probably gone is the hosting account. I imagine the whole account may have lapsed, but the registration for the domain was for like 5 years or something like that. Try calling the number on the registration info and chatting with them.

Thanks.

I have used Avahost for several websites that I've set up, include them in your search.

Pro .... price.
Con.... Not for the website novice.

I have used Host Depot (www.hostdepot.com) in the past for several web sites I built.

They are in FL and have the normal variety of support and price levels. I have been very pleased with their support. You will have to be familiar with web pages design unless you want them to "build" it or maintain it for you.

I would contact the guy that set it up and talk with him, if it's registered in his name you could pay him to pay them.
Awkward but it might be your easiest option. Ask him about transferring it to your name perhaps.
If it comes down to registering yourself you'll most likely be needing a new WWW .name.
If I remember right there is a waiting period to recycle the domain name now because there were those who bought
them up as soon as they expired and ransomed them off for as much money as they thought they could get.
The domain and the host are two different things but many hosts provide/pay the first year domain registration for you.
In the future they are usually two separate things/bills. Do you have a copy saved of the web pages you had?
That would make things easier if you start over or else it looks like your gonna start completely from scratch.
Not always a bad thing in the end.
If you don't find a more knowledgeable person I will help when and how I can but I am no expert.
I have set up several websites and a few forums in the past and understand the basics fairly well.

Go-Daddy

Post by benush26 »

When I clicked the link and Go-Daddy came up I figured you would have an easier time, They have had my dot com for many years and are affordable and quite easy to work with.

If you just call them at (480) 505-8877 and explain the situation I am guessing that they will do what they can (legally) for you. And 'maybe' even take you through some of what can and cannot be done.

I went to his site
smilebiz.com

but not much exists. There are pictures of people getting dental work.

Keep asking questions and I am certain there are incredible resources in this group that will get you back up and on line.

You can see part of the web page here: http://web.archive.org/web/20080418115731/http://www.billstoolz.com/

Perhaps you can salvage it from that...

I'd be glad to help, if needed.

Actually, I have copied it from the wayback machine and made it available here: http://teamtj.net/billstoolz/
The only thing missing is the pictures on the projects page...
