I wish I had that option. One shopsmith in the closet, after I thew out my clothes and another in the master bedroom (after my wife threw me out? Ya' think!). Some of us have room for the minimum and have to make do, so would you 1% ers stop lording it over we lowly 99% ers who don't have a gazillion bucks to afford extra closet or carport space for a second Shopsmith. Just tell us how we can manage with what we have or how we can get you to pay for more space for us, without voting for Obama a second time around.

It would be nice if we could keep our political feelings out of our posts. There are far more sites where you can talk politics. One of the nice things about this forum are people are open to helping others. Last thing we need to do is create boundaries and hard feelings between members. This is the "woodworking tool review" forum after all.

Speaking as one of the 'apparent' 1%(those with more than one SS), I can be tolerant of occasional excursions into political waters, and am not in any way offended by opinions different from my own :Dtotally rational well thought out:D beliefs.]is[/B] better suited for such themed threads.

I am not sure why you believe I am in a higher tax bracket than you but let me assure you that I am not in the 1% category, I do not file for capital gains (because there are none) and I do not have any dividends to report.

The "vast collection of equipment" in my shop is just that; a collection that has been developed over a period of of about 35 years.

As for a vote for Obama - don 't hold your breathe.

Yes, it is a woodworking forum]
Community[/B]
"This is a forum for general discussion not related to woodworking".

I do agree, however, that we (I) sometimes get a bit too carried away by emotion; especially when the conversation becomes political.

I had toned down my reply after thinking it over as I don't want to come down too heavy handed. I understand that I can use the ignore feature too.

It just seems like it is occurring very regularly outside of the Community thread to interject a political bent in many replies. I don't care which way you lean - I just really don't want to know. But solve a Shopsmith problem and I'm all ears. :)

Religion and politics are personal. I highly doubt that anything you say are going to change someone's mind. I have a relative who spends hours watching political talk and hours surfing websites with stories that support that view. No one wants to spend anytime with him with him anymore because no conversation can be had without discussing politics.

If that is your thing, so be it, but direct it in a better way. At any given time you are likely to offend 50% of the people.

You did not direct these comments at me specifically but I will accept them as though they were. I do know that I am guilty without being called out directly. I do respect yours and others opinions and your right to be insulated from those other opinions that you do not want to be associated with.

I will not promise to cease but I will dial it back (a great deal).

You can take me off of your ignore list until I prove that you can't.

It appears some folks are ultra "sensitive". While I agree with the recommendation to keep political speech confined to the Community Forum it is in no way necessary to "police" all other forums to exclude occasional political (or any other subject) remarks.

Remember while we have the right of free speech we should be aware of others' sensibilities. And it's necessary for those of the other viewpoint to remember we do NOT have the "right" to not be offended.

Suggest everyone lighten up. Let's keep the Shopsmith Forums the friendly place it has been for years and not get our noses out of joint unnecessarily over minutia.

I never post on political topics any more. About 18 months ago I posted in reply to a post by my daughter on facebook. I was in total agreement with one of her friends, and the post came across 180 degrees out of whack. The young lady was deeply hurt and I decided that my writing skills didn't reflect my intentions and I swore off such posting. I just got off another FB group of former Vietnam LRRPs and Rangers, where I sent a post concerning what I thought was a harsh response to another member. That went "poorly", but I don't feel as bad about that one. I don't mind reading other opinions, in fact I like it as long as we stay civil and respectful. I like the good natured ribbing and banter as well, it is one reason I keep coming back. I have a former student who has totally opposite views on just about everything. I read most of his postings and he once asked why I did that. He seemed surprised that I would, and he thought he was " correcting my thinking". I being a smart Alec and wanting to get in my own little shot, said " I was a Ranger, I was a recon guy, and I am still doing recon!" He was quite for a while and now has returned to sending me as much junk as he can! I think we both learn a lot. Don't tell him that!;)

Nothing is learned from ignoring someone with differing views.

Much can be learned by listening to opposing views.

And sometimes your own incorrect 'thinking' becomes apparent!:D
