Urethane Bandsaw tires & glue

Howdy!
A couple months ago I installed the urethane tires on my "new" shopsmith bandsaw. They worked great for a few days, but last evening, the bottom started working it's way off the front of the lower wheel. I re-positioned them, and the same thing happened.

I have not had this problem with the urethane tires on my 14" bandsaw, which I use as a re-saw. Per instructions, I simply pulled them on (used clamps and arm strength).

I am considering putting some spray adhesive on the wheels, like 3M 77 or perhaps 90 to keep them in place. Seems worth a try instead of returning and replacing.

Has anyone else attempted gluing urethane tires? Please share your experience?

not knowing where/when you got your tires i will say that a while back shopsmith got a batch of wrong size tires. if you measure the length from the weld to the weld (off the wheel)it should be 30inches. the bad tires measure about 33 inches. hope this makes sense

Yes, I have used the 3M 77 spray glue on a set of orange tires when the lower tire came loose. I placed a short 3/4" dowel under the tire and sprayed behind the dowel as I rolled it around the wheel. The tires never came off again when I was using the bandsaw but I sold the bandsaw after a few years. I do not know the long term effects of doing this action on the orange tires.

I used this action on many sets of the black bandsaw tires with great success, no failures. I found the glue supplied with the black tires would lump up under the tire when applying it preventing a smooth surface on the black tire.

Perfect! Sounds like it is worth a try. I saw a previous post of yours about the dowel & lumpy glue, so I'll use the 77 spray. Use if for many things, but have to be careful about over-spray.

I'll check the measurement when I get them off. Bought them through shopsmith just a couple months ago. They were pretty tight to get on, so likely the correct items.

I'll give y'all a progress note when complete this weekend.

Just curious, isn’t it that one of the purposes of buying expensive urethane tires is to dispense yourself from the hassle of gluing it? Sorry, no experience with urethane tires yet.
