First (almost) completed project

Post by teamtj »

Well, she won't win any beauty contests, and after assembly I see a TON of places where I could have done things better, but I (almost) finished my first woodworking project since my senior year of high school back in 1991.

This is made from scrap I had left over from my real project I'm working on (a coffee table) because I had just enough and I liked the design and I'm at a roadblock with the coffee table.

Just needs a bit of sanding and some finish.

And a way to hang it...

An interesting way to put cutoffs to work. I like it.

Of course we will need pictures of the coffee table too!:D

Nice project. I might try something like it since I have several cutoffs from another project myself.

Good job!!

Very nice first project.

The simplest way to hang the shelf would be to drill a hole through the top section and screw it to the wall. But, if you have a plunge router, you can get a "keyhole" bit that will allow you to plunge the bit into the back of the shelf and then cut a slot or slots for hanging the shelf on round head screws installed in the wall. Here's one example of the bit -- http://www.woodcraft.com/product/200465 ... 16-cl.aspx

I like the idea. I have a corner in the shop that could use something like that.

Not often, but I do plan on making a quilt hanger for my wife, hopefully for Christmas.

The quilt in the pic is actually the one on my bed. :-)

How did you put them together? Did you just nail them or glue them?

Looks good!

I actually went all fancy and used pocket screws. Had to test out my new Pocket Screw Jig that I got at Lowe's.
