Can anyone tell me is this is normal?
I have a rubber ring on the tube. Is this normal or should it be somewhere else?

It is suppose to be there. It serves to reduce the chance of the headstock slamming into the carriage with enough force to break either one.rmojo wrote:I have a rubber ring on the tube. Is this normal or should it be somewhere else?
More importantly it is a spacer. By sliding the headstock and carriage together against this spacer, the blade (with the quill fully retracted) should be in the center of the table insert.

I had the exact same reaction when I started looking at buying a used Shopsmith. . .rmojo wrote:Thanks for the info. I wasn't sure if it belonged inside the headstock.
