Scroll saw question

I was wondering if a stand mounted scroll saw can be used on a Shopsmith as well, or is it limited to the stand. Thanks!

Is the stand a power stand? If so, the answer is yes.

If the stand is part of the freestanding scroll saw, then from a practical standpoint, the answer is no. The freestanding saw does not have an input shaft to drive with the Mark V. I am sure you could get the parts to modify the freestanding saw to use on the Mark V but I do not think that is practical.

I totally agree that it not practical to attempt to change the drive on the scroll saw. I priced the change many years ago and the parts were more expensive than buying a used Shopsmith mounted scroll saw, stand and motor.

The freestanding scroll saw control box, same as the thickness planer, is more expensive to replace than the cost of the power stand or a stand and motor. I always recommended my customers buy the Shopsmith mounted scroll saw and put it on a stand with a motor. Never had any problems with this setup but found the freestanding scroll saw control box has failed (no internal electrical protection) if there are thunder storms around. My solution was to buy a used Shopsmith mounted scroll saw and a motor and motor mounting plate and used the freestanding scroll saw stand. Then sell the remaining freestanding scroll saw parts. This was much cheaper than a new control box.

Thanks for the info guys! It's a freestanding scroll saw. I originally wanted all mark V mounted spts but I got a good deal!
