That was my initial reaction, but I do not think so. I do not see a pattern mount. My second thought was a jig to bore doors, but I do not see that now either.wa2crk wrote:I'm thinking maybe a lathe duplicator of some sort. It looks to be adjustable to a degree. Neither have I discovered a way to mount it to the TS.
Wonder how much that saw blade 'wobbles'.

I thought it was weird that he called the band saw a "vertical saw mill" but maybe you're on to something. I emailed the seller a couple days ago, but no response so far.

Those are 2 of the hand-saw clamps from his Foley saw sharpener. The one in the bottom of the picture has a hand-saw blade (less handle) still clamped in it.
My father bought a full Foley shop back in the 60's and had a batch of those clamps.
He soon sold the saw shop after he decided that his eyes were just not good enough for that work.

It amazes me that Total Shop and few others were able to get away producing and selling something that is an obvious copy of the ShopSmith product. I know Shopsmith holds various patents but apparently not on the overall design. Example look at the Bandsaw you could paint it grey, put a SS decal on it and I don't think anyone would know the difference they are that much alike.
I wonder how they did it?

According to the tool-hunter web site (here), the Shopsmith patents started expiring in the mid 70's and the clones started appearing in the early 80's. In '82 Shopsmith filed a complaint with the International Trade Commission against a handful of companies. They settled and part of that settlement was making minor changes like moving the location of the power switch, cutting openings in the legs, etc.
Also according to that site regarding the bandsaw, it may look just like the Shopsmith model, but it probably doesn't have the auto-tracking feature.

I have one of those clone bandsaws for a Smithy Supershop, but I expect it is similar to the Total Shop version. It came with two sets of mounting tubes. One set for a Shopsmith or clone, and another larger diameter set of tubes that is used with a spacer/adapter that allows the bandsaw to be mounted on the Supershop. While it looks similar to the Shopsmith bandsaw, the case of the Supershop model is all cast aluminum and the upper wheel tilts like a traditional bandsaw so that the blade tracks in the center of the wheels, unlike the self tracking feature of the Shopsmith bandsaw. It also is heavier than the Shopsmith saw.
