Hello All;
I have just acquired an older ShipSmith and I want to restore it. The serial number is 43358. It has the saw table and one stand, a scroll saw, 12 inch sanding disc, some lathe parts and a drill attachment.
The colour is mainly a dark gray/blue. It has a toggle switch to start/stop. The Shop/Smith logo is rivited on, not screwed on.
Can anyone tell me what year it is?
What year is my ShopSmith

According to the Shopsmith website, wouldn't that serial # make it a 1979 Mark V:

That is the same year as my machine. Post a picture and folks should be able to help verify at least what model it is

A 10E or 10ER would be pre 1953.
I hope it has rip fence. If so, a 10E does not have a rear clamp on the fence. Another indicator of a 10E is the quill return housing(plain jane, no graduations). Otherwise it is probably a 10ER. That rivited on plate provides clues, but that can be nebulous since older 10E plates were used on early 10ER's.
Pix would help us decipher which model it is. A 10E would likely be late 40's, and a 10ER early 50's.
Either way ya got a winner IMHO!:)
P.S. Oh yeah, the sn probably makes it a 10ER.
P.P.S. After a half century, does it really matter?

You could post a picture and he could confirm whether his is like yours.
I don't know serial numbers for the 10E and 10ER models. Do they overlap?

It was late last night when I sent in this post. The model is an ER and the correct serial number is R43358. My apologies.
The machine has a rip fence and the mitre guage slots are not "T" shaped. It does sit on a wooden bench. Is that factory? I thought it must be home made although it is very well done.
The fellow I got it from has had it for over 30 years and the before that it belonged to his wife's father who owned for an unknown time.
It has one open belt that sits on a three shive pulley top and bottom. There are two way tubes.

The machines were sold with a blueprint for the bench. Shopsmith also sold metal legs that could be attached to a top made of 2x material.gr858 wrote:It was late last night when I sent in this post. The model is an ER and the correct serial number is R43358. My apologies.

The Model 10s were shipped with no base. The end castings were bolted to a table or a couple of 2x6. An option was legs that mount to the 2x6. Casters were optional as well.gr858 wrote:It was late last night when I sent in this post. The model is an ER and the correct serial number is R43358. My apologies.

Apologies not needed!;)
BTW those are 'cone' pulleys - take good care of them - unusual bore size.
