What is the old adage,"Repeat a lie often enough and people will eventually accept it as the truth."
For the last few years 'the powers that be' have been trying to convince the American public that anyone on Social Security is a "taker" or and that Social Security benefits as "entitlements."
Social Security is a tax that the American worker was forced to pay. Had the money been invested instead of squandered by Congress there would be a surplus in the fund instead of this talk that Social Security going broke.
That money was entrusted to Washington and if it ain't there now Congress should be tried for embezzlement.
So rather than having fingers pointed at them for being crooks they talk of "takers' and "entitlements", shifting the problem from them to those they stole from.
Am I a Taker?

Anyone that "stood on the wall to defend our freedom" long enough to EARN a retirement IS NOT A TAKER! They are receiving compensation from a contract of service with our government.
I did not stay in long enough to earn mine, but I don't regret that decision either.

[quote="dusty"]Wouldn't you know it. I am not eligible for either one of these programs]
You could always move to one of the states that has it. I am not eligible for it either. I had someone who was on welfare tell me about it. Just another freebe for people that don't want to get off the couch and find a job. If they wanted a job they could find one. There are a lot of place's here that give you a job day by day. I know because I went to one when Boeing was on strike. Had to make some money some how.

Right now, I'm an ungrateful "giver." AS I'm only 54 now, and work, the government DEMANDS that I give to SS. That, along with my VA disability, (and however much silver I can save by then) will be my retirement.
After retirement, I WILL be a taker. Since the government DEMANDED I pay SS, I will demand my payback.
I've also got a source for silver, as lower than spot price. Thanks to the current administration, spot prices have gone up $2 per ounce, since Tuesday. But I've only got 1/6th Jesus, or 5 pieces of silver. One ounce Walking Liberty 1 dollar coins.

Thank you, Jerry.jctorok wrote:Dusty,
Are you a taker?
I know that many on board focused on the social security. I offer you a different way to look at it. Your service to our country makes you a giver. I am guessing your age as about the same as my dad's (he is a USAF Retired CMsgt), so you probably spent a number of tours SE Asia, you missed days with your family in service of your country, you stood your watch when others were at home cozy and ignorant in their bed, you offered to give your life so others could vote as they please, worship as they please and have the freedom to succeed.
Sir, God bless you for the service to our country, you are not a taker, but a person who has served our nation and her people. Your sacrifice, like others who have served and are currently serving in the military, police, fireman, nurses and the like is truly commended.
You deserve all you are given.
I salute you. BZ - job well done.

All is not lost!
Last evening I attended a performance by my granddaughter's Kindergarten class. Unbeknownst to me this was a Veteran's Day Program rather than the "Holiday" program I was expecting. Before the program started all military - active duty, retired, vets, and first responders were asked to stand and receive the audiences thanks.
The children sang the National Anthem, "America", "You're A Grand Old Flag", "America The Beautiful", and "God Bless America". I was amazed - these little folks pulled it off without ONE hitch! It was a very emotional experience for me as a retired USAF officer who tears up every time I wake up and realize I'm living in the greatest country the earth has ever known.
It's a great feeling to know there are still little ones being taught to love and appreciate the gift they have received from God simply by being born in this wonderful place.
