I'm trying to think of any benefit to doing this. The only thing I can think of is to lock the table at the highest position without having to reach to the lock knob on the other side. But that explanation is an even bigger "stretch" than reaching for that other knob would be. Maybe a "sawdust collector" for making wood filler? Otherwise.... would that let the table move closer to the headstock? And why would that be desired? Nah, had to have just been a goof.
And then there is the 'stop rod' poking into the right end casting!;)

On the NCIS show, maybe they want it for the show but have no one who knows how it is actually suppose to go together, and are probably not too concerned about it if it will be used just as a prop. If they do try and use it, hopefully they have someone who can make it run correctly so no one gets hurt. Maybe they need a "Shopsmith Expert" to set it up for them.

On the Pawn Stars show, the "Old Man" bought it, and in following episodes you can see it in the background on the showroom floor when the camera is pointing in the right direction. I've seen it about twelve times on different episodes since they bought it. Haven't seen it lately though, so they either sold it or moved it to the warehouse.

I figured the pawn stars sold it to NCIS. I also figure they have someone reading our posts and will be correcting our views. Jim

$260 is a pretty good price, especially for one that is THAT clean!

I'm just wondering when some from Pawn Stars or NCIS shows
up here, or over at Skip's group.

There was another show, that had an ER on it, a couple of
years ago. Can't remember which, though.

Off to hunt the Internets.

It has been stated that Mark Harmon is a woodworker in his private life. His father was Tom Harmon an outstanding college football player in the '50's who won the Heisman Trophy.
Could the 10ER seen on the show belonged to Tom Harmon at some point in time? Could make for some interesting speculation. Perhaps NCIS could conduct an investigation as to the lineage of that machine.

Thought the episode was really good. I hope Mark Harmon is the owner and the machine has family history, much like my 520. Nice touch NCIS.

Just catching up on my NCIS episodes and saw this. Denozzo say, "wow she (pawn shop owner) should be wearing a mask charging that much ($259)." Gibbs says, "nah, this is a workhorse, worth every penny."
