I have a question this time

Post by Bad_Synapse_Labs »

Starting on my overall unit I focused on the way tubes. I used my secret weapon of brake cleaner and the rust just bubbled off.

In my experience if it is easy there is something wrong.

My question is does anyone know if Brake cleaner is a bad choice? I don't know why but it was way to easy which makes me panic.

What color were the bubbles?

How thick was the rust?

What color are the tubes now?

I do not know of any incompatibility between brake fluid and steel.

My way tubes were not encrusted with rust however I had "cake" points where the carriage sat in multiple points. Once I sprayed, i want to say in about 30 seconds the rust seemed to "Bubble" up then run down the sides. I would then run behind with mineral spirits and a CLEAN rag and wipe away the aftermath. The way tubes are 60% better with just a 10 minute attention. Very little elbow grease was used. This is what concerned me. Nothing is easy. I have learned that.
