Box Joints ...When all fells ask yall

Here is my setup it works the joints come out good but leave a small tab at the end what am I doing wrong? Should I just trim it off all the way around the box? The top of the box comes out even within a 1/32 .......

The slightly long tabs are not the result of doing anything wrong. I cut box joints that way on purpose with the expectation of sanding the excess smooth.

If you want less of a tab, reduce the depth of cut. Since you are doing this on a Shopsmith, raise the table by the amount you want to reduce.

Looking at the last picture you posted, I would say you have a very good set up for this size box joint. First and last pins appear to be the same size which I consider a must.

The hard wood pin on your jig needs to be exactly the same width as the thickness of your dado blade. It appears that it is. Adjust depth of cut to equal the thickness of the box sides and your there.

I like the tails long so they can be sand down ...it the thin tab at the bottom...I was thinking I started out a little on the outside of the saw or I need to make the board a little narrower. I thought I was just on the edge of the board when I started the cut....Thanks for the help Dusty

Cut the boards being joined to width equal to an exact multiple of pin width.

Got my rule out ...yup ..Your right Im 1/8th out on the width. My fence must to have slipped

....Well that want be hard to fix...
