Jointer versions

I am looking for a used jointer and would like to have some information on how to determine the age. Also how many version of the jointer are there. Are they pretty compatible on parts and design?

The jointers are basically the same regardless of age. The cutter guard may be a bit different and the later models have a plastic adapter for collecting the chips with the dust collector. The chip adapter is available as an accessory for the older jointers.

They also upgraded the blade guard to include a feather guard, but you can add this upgraded guard to any of the earlier jointers:

There have only(AIUI) been two significantly different versions.

The 4E which mounted on the 10 E/ER.

The 620 which has only the minor changes mentioned above. It is tube mounted like all the other later SPTs.

I do not know the significance of the letter suffixes(my 1963 version is a 620-C).

My 2008 jointer was called a Jointer suffix "C", but the minor casting "lip" difference at the end of the table may make it different than JPG's older 620-"C" ????

My 'C' does not have that lip.

Unfortunately, SS told me that even though the PP has much better power control they have no plans at the moment to produce a 6" or 8" jointer for the SS.

Hopefully, if they recoup the dev cost for the PP they will change their minds - and improve dust (chip) collection at the same time.

Hi there Bill,

Where are you from?

I have a used jointer you can have if you like. It is a SS jointer, greenie, and last I used it it worked just fine. The guard that covers the blade is there but the spring does not function. Should be an easy fix I would assume.

Depending on where you are, is how expensive it is to ship. I am in Ohio around the Cleveland area.

PM me if you are interested in it. I don't need the second, as I have a newer one on my 510 at the moment and it works just fine.
