Worktable Parts

Greetings,
I need a set of main table height adjustment tubes, but I can't seem to find them in the parts catalog. The closest I came is a tube and bar assembly
(Part # 514344, Ref. #163) at $153. Does anyone know if/where I can buy just the tubes? Having watched this ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZrX-iLSihrs ) video on YouTube I surmise that tubes alone are available.

The tubes are staked(?) to the trunion and therefore not available from ss by themselves.

I was gonna point you to an e-bay listing for a pair, but, they sold a half hour ago!:(

They appear occasionally.

Perhaps a forum member than has done the double tilt upgrade has a pair???

If one purchases the DIY Double Tilt Upgrade, I believe Shopsmith sends tubes with double racks to replace the single rack tubes. This tells me that Shopsmith considers the tubes to be user replaceable.

I would suggest that you call Shopsmith and ask.

Maybe they will sell you the double racked tubes as repair parts.

Curiosity makes me ask. Why do you need just the tubes?

The tubes are definitely replaceable as evidenced by the video I mentioned in my post.

I want to craft a thickness sander using the motor and the adjustable table. Trouble is, the table assembly, as is, would fix the roller and table surface too close together with no room for adjustment. So, I need to take the work table off of the tubes and fashion a new table that will sit lower down. That way I can use the tubes for height adjustment. I can do one of two things: get a new set of tubes and attach my new table to it, or; use the existing tubes by taking the assembly apart each time, which is a p/i/t/a.

Yes, the tubes can be removed and reinstalled without any special equipment BUT Shopsmith identifies some parts as "non-repair parts" and they do not sell those parts as individual items.

If you could find a tube and tie bar assembly on ebay you would have what you need (with some extra).

I looked at the lathe duplicator parts diagram, and saw the table tubes. ( http://www.shopsmith.com/service/lathe_ ... iagram.htm )

They're pretty short--I'm not sure I can get enough height adjustment out of them.

I also looked at the Lumberjocks blog ( http://lumberjocks.com/shipwright/blog/26701 ) and I am wondering how he will attach a height adjustable table. I can easily get as far as he has--the trick is in the adjustable table, for which I need the tubes.

One way to adjust a sander would be to use a couple of hinges which would allow the bed of the sander to pivot up and down to adjust for varying stock thickness, instead of relying solely on vertical movement of the bed.

Shipwright's sander is adjustable. Maybe you didn't read the entire thread. The table which is beneath the roller is on a pivot. The adjustment is made by changing elevation of the table on the side opposite the pivot.
