My first SS. SO EXCITED!
Moderator: admin
Those studs are parts #21+23 here:
http://www.shopsmith.com/ownersite/partscat/bench_baseassemblyexpview.htm
But it looks like SS doesn't currently sell them:
http://www.shopsmith.com/ownersite/partscat/bench_baseassembly.htm
Looks like there's one listed here on E-Bay:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Shopsmith-Mark-V-Lock-Handle-/221166130276?pt=Power_Tools&hash=item337e875464
And here's another:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Shopsmith-Mark-V-Tension-Handles-Set-of-Two-/190767583102?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c6aa24f7e
If I'm not mistaken, one of the two studs is reverse threaded, so make sure the handle assembly includes both bolts so you're sure to get the one you need. It looks like both of the above auctions include the studs.

Thanks! I just bid on one of them. The screw I'm missing is normal threaded.dgale wrote:Those studs are parts #21+23 here:

What has 'changed'? (other than the ribbing/knurling);)fjimp wrote:I likely have a set. Problem being my versions are all much newer than yours and I feel certain will not fit. Jim

My brother bought two older machines which have differing configurations than mine. One of his was in poor condition and mine wouldn't fit. Sorry I see nothing, hear nothing and know even less

When I purchased my last 500 (shopsmith 1980), used, it was missing the handles. The guy said he would look for them but he never contacted me so I went to the bay and got a set off off an older machine with the more rounded, longer spaced grip. They fit fine. Sorry I don't have a year for the older ones but I have seen the handles on pre-shopsmith machines.

"Is a puzzlement"! I have not seen any differences(yet?) other than the 'ribbing' on the handles.fjimp wrote:My brother bought two older machines which have differing configurations than mine. Methinks yer brother had end casting funkiness or the screws were not retracted sufficiently when trying to attach them.
