what is it

What is it? When I purchased my shopsmith a few years ago this came in a box of tools. It appears to be some type of mandrel. Any ideas as to what?

How thick is it? It might be a mandrel somone made to turn pens with, looking at the length of it. Anyway, that's my best guess. By the way I notice you are from Lafayette. Where are located in relation to Purdue and Hawkins Rail Services (located on Union Street)?

It’s too big to be a pen mandrel. The mandrel is ½ inch diameter and 12 inches long. The bushings 1.5 inches in diameter. I live north of Lafayette but work in Lafayette
