While you're at the rpm thing take a look at the other tools in your shop..... drills, sanders, routers and hey anything you like that has a speed control... notice anything... oh yea, numbers or letters. Just finished looking at about a dozen tools all from famous makers and none have rpm listed. In fact they don't even have a table attached so you have to go to the manual. So I guess I'd have to say my shop is an rpm free zone shop.

Even my SFM is just numbers on my drum sander.... not that it makes any difference. How about the feed rate on the shopsmith power planner???

You have made your point - the speed charts that Shopsmith has provided (there are several) do not meet your individual expectations.

A couple other seem to have solved their own similar dilemma; they have made their own speed charts. I have one of my own, hanging on the wall in the shop. I can see it when I am standing at the speed dial on the Shopsmith.

I NEVER READ IT - ANYMORE I rely on the generic markings on the speed dial and my own feel.

But if you guys want a special speed chart - why don't you make one that meets your own specific needs and wants.

I know Doc. Your point is that you want Shopsmith to retool and create a speed dial that you prefer but that I will have to get used to. No I won't - I just won't upgrade.

The point is lost in the stack and the where it has gone no one knows, round and round it spins, the compass with the tidewater down they go as the eagle rises in the west and someone somewhere shuts the program off, electrons in the junction cease to flow, memories lost, it must have been the black hole or was that last time. OH yea now I get it now. The treads must have weaved in the plantary pull of weak gravity for me not to have seen it before. Said the raven on a branch as he did call, no more of this for me, I've got better things to crow about, nevermore. Now he has made my point, there is no point, nor more to say that isn't waisted on celestial shore. Ain't that it and doesn't it make my point around about the way cause that is the way it goes today but then I'm only a copy of myself before the day or was that the night that confused us........ no it was a brown fox who stole the kitten and no it's not.

Now that you have made my point and the rpm game is over how are you doing this fine day?

One last post.

I finally found a power tool in my shop with the RPMs printed on the speed dial. My Porter Cable 890 series router. When I turn the dial from one side of a number to the other I can hear the RPMs change. Even electronic speed control numbers are only a guide.
