miter gauge slippage

Hi everyone

Late last night...or early this morning actually...while failing at making perfect finger joints I noticed that my miter gauge was moving slightly while the finger joint fixture was attached to it.

I tightened the knob with the long Allen wrench through the holes and tried again. It was still moving. I had long suspected that I did not have the recommended two washers under the knob with the holes in it. I decided to take it apart today and boy was I surprised to find NO WASHERS under the silver knob with the holes.

I searched but couldn't find the dimensions of the washers. I would prefer to buy the parts from ss but I really want to work on it tonight.

Would one of you guys be so kind as to measure the id, od and thickness of the two washers so I can go to the hardware store and find a couple washers that are comparable?

Also, does anyone know of a spring mod to make the miter gauge grip tighter when you squeeze the handle?

I found item #277 p/n 504267 on my miter gauge has two 16mm OD washers. One has an 8mm center hole & the other has a 7mm hole. Both of these washers are secured in place by one screw. I didn't check the front washer secured by the stud (#278)

Correction: the 8mm hole washer is about .75mm thick(thin). The 7mm hole washer is 1mm (thicker). Why I have 3 washers total is beyond me on the first miter gauge unless it was shimmed for some reason.

I'm not sure which is correct. I need to locate one of my other miter gauges.

I found another miter gauge with only 2 washers: 16mm OD, 1 mm thick, and 7mm hole in the center. There is one washer held in place by the large Phillips screw. The other washer is held in place by a stud (#278)

Thanks... its a good thing I sold my previous 500 to my dad, who was a a machinist...I got in touch with him and he gave me the dimensions...

Just checked a 3rd. Only two #277 washers. 16mm OD, 7mm ID, and 1mm thick.

I just reread your first post. I gave you the wrong washer dimensions. For some reason I thought you meant the washers between the bar & the handle.
These are #277 on the link below on page 56.

I think you want item #269. My bad. I can recheck if you want or just let it go.
