I think you're asking for trouble. Continued spinning will probably increase the extent of the crack & the button bearing will loosen or the whole thing might just come apart.
My dad's 1951 10er, 2 more 10er's, same vintage, a Goldie MK5, a 510 shortie with 34inch tubes, bandsaw, jointer, jigsaw, belt sander, a ton of small SS goodies and still looking...you just can't have enough Shopsmith stuff
There was a guy on E-Bay that said he can rebuild the control sheave and repair the crack as well. I don't remember the link so you would have to look for it. You may be able to contact Bill Mayo, he may know the link.
Bill V
I have extra ones from when I was stocking up on parts to completely rebuild 3 Mark V headstocks. I need to look, but I don't have time today being I have to go see a special sister-in-law whom I've known for 40 years. She has no motor skills, cannot utter a single word, but with her eyes she stole my heart.
I have several used ones as I know Bill Mayo has as well. Bill just might have more inventory than Shopsmith! I make it a point to visit him once a year when I go down to Florida to see my mother & do her taxes. I also enjoy going into his workshop and seeing his stations- especially the one he has for working on motors.
Whatever Bill has will have to meet his standards which are backed by his many years of experience. In fact, I would wholeheartedly endorse whatever Bill might recommend/suggest as he has the ability to rebuild and then check out any item he sends to someone. If you look at on of Bill's latest posts, his email is on the bottom & you can contact him directly.
Happy holidays.

My pleasure. I just noticed you are working on a Greenie from the year I was born. It's amazing how well these Shopsmiths has withstood the test of time. I have a 55 Greenie, I think, myself. I've never checked the s/n but went by the guy's word who gave it to me.
I've been picking up things here & there for it when I stumble on a good deal. Last year I got a new Gilmer belt and also picked up one of Bill's upgraded 2-bearing quills along with a set of new clutches.
If you talk to him & if you don't know, he can explain how to check the clutches out. I'm not sure it's documented anyplace.
Good luck!

I would grind out that crack, drill a hole at the end of the crack and either braze or weld it up. Next up would be a minute on the lathe to turn it back down. Thats me though and many don't have the equipment to do it. It can be fixed though.
