500 as dedicated drill press?

Guess I need to thank my lucky stars. Moving the headstock while 'vertical' not an endeavor needing 'assistance'(I am not saying tis easy!).

I am unclear how mounting away from wall on piers is beneficial.

Being mounted 'securely' not a mystery.

As you said "I would try to get max distance on both sides to any wall etc.".The "etc." would be things hanging on the flat wall-like pegboard with tools. Whereas, there is open space on either side of my piers.

It seems to me that this type of jack (an automobile scissor jack-$15-20), would be better than a bottle jack....especially in being able to fine tune the position of the headstock either going up or coming down. Anybody tried one of these?
