Pictures of projects
I would love to see some pictures of various projects that you all have made. I saw the round birdhouses that someone had posted that they were cool. I haven't done much woodworking in the past 5-6 years but am getting the itch. Here is a picture of our bed I made for my wife about 5 years ago.

Woodcutter:
That's a project to be proud of! Thanks for posting it.
Compared to other WW forums that I am a member of, this one has fewer pictures of completed projects. That's partly why I started my weekly blog about a year ago, to encourage a few more postings.
Personally, I enjoy seeing what other woodworkers are doing so I hope if you have more to show we will see them here or on the blog.

Some folks do - some don't! But I'm with you woodcutter. I have posted photos of projects on the "Weekly Blog" thread, as they are done. Also some have used project photos as avatars. Personally, I change mine every few months. One way to see projects is to go through the "Weekly Blog" series.

I was born and raised in South Dakota. Spend my first 18 years of life here and then joined the MARINE CORPS. Spent 21 years on active duty from 1979-2000. Retired and moved back. I am a headhunter now. Oddly, enough I recruit and assist companies within the building materials, lumber and truss industry.
I do enjoy seeing completed projects. Gives me some ideas and its neat to see what people come up with.
I built the bed in 5 days. Start to finish. Made it for my wife as a Christmas present. She had been "bugging" me for quite a few years. Seems like other projects get more priority.
Post some pics....lets see what everyone has done! Semper Fi.

Hi again, woodcutter! I sorrowfully forgot to mention your craftsmanship on that bed:o . I'll blame that on the fact, I got called for supper.
That is one fabulous sturdy looking bed head and foot boards! I can't hardly believe you were able to do that in only 5 days. It would take me at least a month. Nice work!:D Keep 'em commin'!

I agree with Chuck Wow that is really nice work and I cannot come close to matching the efficiency. 5 days is amazing. I am relatively new to the forum and I have just figured out what the weekly blog is about. I think it's great to have a place to post projects. I have a list of project small and large and I know I will have many questions that the forum can help me with as I learn new techniques in furniture construction. check out the March 17th blog

Thanks for all the positive feedback. I was under the gun to get it done and in the house before Christmas. Retired is a loose term! It really wasn't all that difficult. I purchased all the wood from a local Menards and started putting it together. I am not much on plans (a fault of mine) so I just started building. Basically, 4 posts and a headboard and footboard. Used red oak that you can buy at your local lumberyard. No planing, jointing, etc. Putting the finish on it was time consuming due to the size. Later, Frank

Nice work woodcutter.
My wife also wants a mission style bed which I have been putting off for some time now I guess its time. I seem to get things done when there is a deadline too. This week we bought a flatsceen tv and we needed a new entertainment center so off to my local lumber yard and back home and into the shop we go. We are having Easter at our house and thing need to be up to par. By the way I was talking to someone at church the other day and he said now that he is "retired" he is busier than ever. How did you cut the mortise and tenon joints and did you buy a 4x4 for the post or glue up?

No mortise or tenon joints. I am not that talented. I just glued up the posts from 4 boards. When I built the posts I attached three sides together first. Then using some bolts that were screwed into the sides of the headboard and footboard I attached them to the posts. Without the fourth board being attached I was able to tighten the bolts up. Maybe not the best way but it has worked very well. I then attached the fourth board to the close the post.
On the bottom rail I used the bolts again in the ends and bolted them into the front and back posts. I made a little "door" that can be removed on the back side of the posts so I can take the bed apart when it needs to be moved.
Again, maybe not what a professional would do but it works for me.
Yea, retirement is VERY busy. Just remember, I am only retired from the Marine Corps. I own two business' now and am going 100%.
