wow, what a surprise
Gee, something from the government that wasn't well thought out...go figure
My dad's 1951 10er, 2 more 10er's, same vintage, a Goldie MK5, a 510 shortie with 34inch tubes, bandsaw, jointer, jigsaw, belt sander, a ton of small SS goodies and still looking...you just can't have enough Shopsmith stuff
already a problem
the 10% they already mix in is already damaging older cars and destroying lawn care equipment. If you don't want to replace your mower/weedeater/etc., then make the effort to find a station that sells alcohol-free fuel.
'55 Greenie #292284 (Mar-55), '89 SS 510 #020989, Mark VII #408551 (sold 10/14/12), SS Band Saw, (SS 500 #36063 (May-79) now gone to son-in-law as of 11-11), Magna bandsaw, Magna jointer 16185 (May-54), Magna belt sander SS28712 (Dec-82), Magna jigsaw SS4397 (Dec-78), SS biscuit joiner, Zyliss (knockoff) vise, 20+ hand planes, 60s Craftsman tablesaw, CarbaTec mini-lathe, and the usual pile of tools. Hermit of the Hills Woodworks, a hillbilly in the foothills of the Ozarks, scraping by.

There are still stations around here the sell non ethanol gas but the price is higher. They claim there is more energy in the gas.
In any case there are a number of additives that can be added to the gas that reduce or eliminate the effects of ethanol on older cars and lawn care products.
I'm told that the additive is a great idea for all vehicles since ethanol will settle out of the gas and will absorb moisture.

Stay out of trouble!
Stay out of trouble!
We put the additive in all our small engines. So far, no problems. Knock on wood.

The major issue with ethanol in gassoline, especially with 2 cycle engines, is the ethanol will bond with water, and thereby separating the oil from the fuel. Straight water will not burn, but ethanol/water mix WILL burn, but there's no oil in it. There go your main, rod bearings, along with the rings/cylinder walls.
I used to run a 2 stroke motorcycle, but my Yamaha RD-400 had oil injection. No issues whatever.
Gasoline/ethanol, gas/ethanol/water, no problems. (In fact, ethanol is a common gas tank/line water removal tool.) But, gas/ethanol/water/oil mix, the gas and oil will stay together, and the ethanol/water will stay together. Both are fuels, but only ONE has lubrication.
Just one more example of our government" breeding" us. (Fertalizing us?) (If you catch my drift.)

Gene Howe?
You remember my uncle Jake?
He taught me what "servicing" meant.
Guys, my Uncle Jake was a cattleman, state Congressman, and state Senator from Gene's hometown of SnowFlake Az. Jake Flake. (Jake married my father's baby sister, and they had 13 children. Guess he was an expert on "servicing.")
He taught me what "servicing"a cow meant. Basically, a bull did it.
Guys, the government is "servicing" US!
