If more of us would put these very few individuals on "ignore", their postings would virtually be lost in cyberspace.
Hi 8iowa,
I notice that on your public profile you list having 2 of the very important SPT ShopSmith coffee mugs. I was wondering......is that one for each hand or one for each shop?Image

Ed: You and I have had so much useful banter that I wouldn't think of "ignoring" you. Actually, you and I are going to have to get together someday and argue about the flat tax.

Tim: A shop just isn't a shop unless you have a Shopsmith coffee mug. You're right on, I have one in the U.P. and one here in Gainesville. I may even have another one someplace. We still have a lot of things boxed up after our move.

Since I have worked with Dr Dave almost weekly for the past 3 years, I must respond. I have learned to be very tolerable of his and other people views since meeting him. Not everyone has the same outlook on life, woodworking and Shopsmiths and he is no different. Dr. Dave and I have very interesting discussions with different view points all the time. I still learn a lot from him by listening to his ideas rather than quickly dismissing them because I disagree with them. He is a highly intelligent individual that I have really enjoyed working with. I am proud to have met and worked with him these past few years. You only get to meet a few independent individuals in life who will leave a lasting impression and he is one for me. The SSusers web site was the only non-shopsmith controlled web site for Shopsmith Users for many years. Dr. Dave pays for the use of the SSusers site name and was the originator and still is the moderator when able for this site. He does not accept any post that criticizes another person, work, post, etc.

Since Dr Dave has a very short life expectancy left, this may be an epitaph for him. Not many of us can battle cancer for as many years as Dr Dave has done. I know the intense pain and other problems he is having would make it very difficult for me to communicate with other people just some of the time. Dr Dave has many years of experience with owning and operating his own companies. He has many years of extensive metal and woodworking experience. He has always been available to help anyone who asks him for assistance on the Forum and/or in his shop. He is a proud man and wants to be active and busy right up to the end. I believe all of us wish for the same thing.

I pray that no one has to walk a mile in Dr. Dave’s shoes and that you will meet people who will leave a lasting impression in your life along the way.

I have met some great people here and we share and even go to some effort to assist each other and the Company. If, however, Dr. D. has a say in this forum I will have to resign- it will hurt- but I have standards for the social treatment of others. He, unfortunately has none.

Please reassure me that he does not have official control of any aspect of this group. J. E. Mike Tobey, III( J.D.- I just don't cram it down peoples' throats)

Well said, Bill. I believe Stephen Covey would characterize this as a paradigm shift. Point being it all depends on the lense you're looking through at the time.
Thank you, Dr. Goldschmidt

Thank you Bill,

I wasn't to sure how much of this was know to the general public and I did not want to presume to post it here. I'm glad you know him well enough to feel free to do so.

So now you know the rest of the story.

Again, thanks Bill.

I guess that is about all I can say.

I'm guessing that we now know what you know...............
I didn't know the man and only have read his 5 posts to this forum, but I can wish no man the grief he is suffering.

I have a great deal of respect for Dr. Dave and his opinions. In life I sometimes find myself in disagreement with others yet always try to appreciate where they are coming from. I would hope that each of us can give all others respect and a bit of slack when we sometimes offer comment or impressions that seem short sighted. When one considers how little it takes for nations to war against one another, patience and understanding seem a small investment in harmony. Jim

Slack is not appropriate. Understanding is. Forgiveness even more. I have been close to many who have honorably suffered appalling slow death. That is not license to be cruel to others. I appreciate being given some insight. As my own health problems carry me closer and closer to the inevitable end, I hope my loyal friends stand by me as well. If they are real friends, they will say" Mike, you are letting your struggles turn you demeaning toward innocent others- Remember that Golden Rule you have known since a child."
This is my last post on this man. I do not begrudge the respect he has earned. Also, I respect that he is fighting the good fight. I will adjust my perspective with the knowledge I now have. I do not retract my opening comment, but that is only me. Again, I am proud of those who have loyalty to Dr. D.- hopefully my friends willl be the same, and good friends are drawn by positive personal qualities. You have made it clear that he has many. At least for me, these recently past days and coming tomorrow are important to me. I will take His words to heart and if the occasion arises in this life I will extend kindness to Dr. D.- many fine people here do so. Respectfully, Mike Tobey

Unfortunately I'm not entirely certain what one would even look like...

It's a quote from the fantastic "Monty Python and the Quest for the Holy Grail" where King Arthur and his merry men "lay siege" to a French castle in the middle of England... Good times :)
