Vegas Today

Little business trip today. Vegas doesn't excite me like most people, not much for fancy or glamour. It is amazing to see what money can build and maintain. But the glitz of it all I can do without.

My prize was going with me but her work stole our time, so I'm flyin solo. I've never been to a show before (thats what we were gonna do). Any suggestions? I don't know if I'd go without her anyway.

I think I could light hundred dollar bills on fire in my living room and get the same result as going to Vegas.
Maybe there's a woodworking show?? no

Maybe you'll get lucky and run into Harry Reid. That should make your day.

Remember one thing as you look around at all the glamour and glitz it was all built on the backs of the losers. Vegas is one of the world's memorials to Losers. They paid for it. The winners took their money home.

My wife summed it up for us. Nothing in Nevada but Booze, Brothels, Babes and Buffets. Not that I'm against any of that.

If I ever went back to Vegas, I'd like to visit the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop and meet the old man since he likes Shopsmiths then stop by and see Rick- the guy who restores old rusted anything to looking like new.

I just wonder- is the old rusted, almost "Swiss cheese" metal still encapsulated somehow or do they simply duplicate the original piece?

I thoroughly enjoyed the Hoover Dam. There are hiking trails, tours and the new bridge with the pedestrian walkway for a stunning view of the dam. I think I drove across the bridge and back a few times before I figured out where to exit and park, it was not marked very well.

+1 vote for Hoover Dam. We were there a couple of years ago before the new bridge was finished.
Saw the magicians, Penn and Teller.....very entertaining. And, also saw the Cirque du Soleil show "Mystère" at Treasure Island...a little pricy, but enjoyed it as well.

As far as Vegas itself.....could do without any of it. Were there again in May last year for a wedding and used it as a jumping off spot to head west. Saw the pawn shop with a line of people wrapped around it waiting to get in while on the way to the wedding.

I have never wanted to go to Vegas very much. As you might guess I am not much into glitz.

I just don't gamble at all and rarely drink anything. My wife (is the high roller

) does spend maybe $3 a month on power-ball tickets. I have never bought a lottery ticket yet, I am waiting for a winner.
This place is only 6 miles north of me but I tend to forget that it is even there:

We get there maybe a half dozen times a year. I have never dropped a dollar there. My wife has played the slots (they have 2,000 of them) to the tune of maybe $10 total over several years.
They put the horse track up first then added the casino later. It was right when people were complaining the most about how tough things were but the night of the grand opening they backed the interstate up for 8 miles trying to get into the 6,000 some odd parking spots. They finally had to close off the interstate exit because the place was running over.
I have stood there watching little old ladies shoving $20 bill after bill, one right after another into those bandits.

There is no recession in that place.
We go there for an occasional meeting and as long as it is not a special event and especially through the week it can be a great place to eat. I understand that on New Years eve that you better have a big wallet to eat there.

You asked about shows. The last dinner show I went to in Vegas featured Frank Gorsham. It was great:D
