Bandsaw Table Insert

Post by jarhead »

Okay, it's in a safe place somewhere (or totally lost in rearrangement of garage) - - - - I'm cheap (I mean frugal) and can't find the darned metal insert. What may I used to create my own replacement without having to buy one from Shopsmith for $12.95 plus shipping? AND . .. .. .. is there a template someplace that I could use to cut the darned thing??

Thanks.

Peachtree Woodworking Supply in Atlanta used to sell these inserts No.1750, three for 7.99. They fit perfectly.

oh oh...sorry! Just went to their web site and yes they still do carry them but it appears that was an 'each' price, not 3 for.

You didn't say if you have the cast iron top or AL version.

If you have the CI version then the ones you are looking at are correct.

I have had the CI shopsmith one on order since this past April. I checked on the status when I ordered some things in early Dec. As of then they did not have anyone to manufacture them, not sure if they were going to or just do away with that as an order-able part. So for now your best bet is to look else where if you really need it or add your name to the wait list.

If you have a Rockler store near you, they may have these in stock. $11 for 5 inserts is not to bad. You can have one for every blade. You will want the Delta one to use with the Shopsmith cast iron table bandsaw.

I have a CI table and need one also I don't mind paying for one but when you get ripped on shipping for something that small I stsrted looking to make one. I had some plexglass in the shop that was the same thichness as the insert so I cut a circle out making it 1 3/4 and added a 1/4 hole in the middle. I put the drill chuck on and put a 1/4 inch bolt thru the hole and turned it to 2 1/2. Sawed a slot in it and I was ready to go. Has held for a year so far
