I'm definitely in the camp of folks who could care less about gambling and the "action" along the Strip. Last time I was there on a business trip a couple years back, the first thing on my agenda was the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop - I couldn't make it there until my meeting was over, so it was something like 6pm and no one was there I recognized other than Antoine the door man. Still, it was fun to check the place out and they clearly get a steady flow of folks wanting to check it out, as it's all set up with roped off area to guide you in and around inside the place to manage the foot traffic, as well as a big section in the middle full of t-shirts and other crap with Chumley's picture on it they are hoping to sell you. What surprsied me was how small the place is - I thought it would be much bigger based on watching the show but it's actually quite small. It's worth a trip to check out, or at least more interesting then 99% of the remainder of Las Vegas IMO, but go there during the day if possible if you hope to see any of the regulars...even then, I have to wonder how much time the new-found celebrities really spend in there when they aren't filming new episodes.backhertz wrote:If I ever went back to Vegas, I'd like to visit the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop and meet the old man since he likes Shopsmiths then stop by and see Rick- the guy who restores old rusted anything to looking like new.
I just wonder- is the old rusted, almost "Swiss cheese" metal still encapsulated somehow or do they simply duplicate the original piece?
Rick's Restoration would have been great to go see as well - I love that show and continually stand in awe of the work they do.
