Another Recommendation for the Administrator

Post by db5 »

I know that a "for Sale" link if it involves SS machines and parts competes with the sponsor. However, I suggest that we have one for books and other documents, which seldom compete with SS. These would be of much benefit to the members, and would avoid posting on Community and make it easier to access by users looking for something. Occasionally there will be a book or manual that has been out of publication from SS that may compete with their newest and improved (yes it has been improved) update; but so has the price and some of us who have much older equipment (Shopsmith and personal) don't need the new and improved Viagra or Cialis offerings.; nor the new and improved offerings from SS.

I haven't seen a suggestion on this forum that has been implemented since joining; however, I know that there are those who look at the broader view who may consider this one.

I doubt they will want to crack open that door. Sure 'we' know the difference, but new 'members' would not.

I must agree. I find potholes in this idea large enough to lose a VW bug in. Jim

Shopsmith does sell a lot of manuals and books. I would suggest Ebay or some other site like Alibris or usedbooks.com if you have books/literature to sell.

I have every book I think Nick Engler ever wrote. I wasn't aware of any of his writings until Feb 2008 when I took a 'pilgrimage' to Poe Ave and simply recognized him as the Saw Dust Session "guy". I hadn't a clue and simply went to the used book sites and in many cases, I received brand new books.

I think I've seen most of the books for sale on Ebay over the last six years. If you check some other woodworking sites & clubs, you are permitted to buy/trade/sell books, equipment, almost anything. I got to know a old Magna Shopsmith person named Bob Fulwider who was in his 90s. He was downsizing & I helped him. I think Bob has since passed away. He was a great source of information/knowledge- one of my Shopsmith mentors.
