Speed dial question

I did some work on my sipped dial awhile back. Now when I turn the dial all the way clockwise it stops at Fast like it should. when I turn it counterclockwise it will bottom out at Fast. I have been using it like this, but I am confused as to what speeds I should be using as listed on the speed dial. for instance ,if I wanted to use a slow bandsaw speed , is C now too fast? do I have something adjusted incorrectly?

I always set the max speed (high speed adjustment) to the FAST position of the speed dial and if the slowest speed goes beyond SLOW back toward FAST or does not reach the SLOW position, I make like the slowest speed dial location would be the A position on the speed dial and adjust for the difference as I go toward the FAST position.

It believe you are needing a new motor belt from Shopsmith when the Speed Dial goes beyond the slowest speed dial range. The motor belt is too short if you cannot reach the SLOW position. You will need to allow for the new motor belt to wear in (20-30 hrs) when first installed before trying for the slowest speed position. Again, I like to apply belt conditioner (auto supply store) to any belt when installed and when lubricating the headstock.

When you set the dial to fast(max clockwise), where is the belt on the motor pulley? It should be very close to the periphery of the pulley. If not, a 'high speed' adjustment is indicated. However if as Bill stated above, the belt is worn to a width of less than 7/16", it should be replaced first.

The speed changes at low rpm are quite gradual, so a slight miscalibration is not critical.
