8" stacked dado
Good day from the North West. Is anyone using an 8" stacked dado on there ShopSmith? If so your likes or dislikes and any problems.
Hi,
Just a few thing that I'd like to add.
Shopsmith had designed the table insert for a 6" dado.
If a 10" blade can cut 3-1/4" deep then simple math says an 8" blade cuts 1" less or 2-1/4". Like ways a 6" blade would cut 1-1/4".
Larger dado normally weigh more the smaller, this equates to longer time to spin up for the larger sets and require more energy during the process. Normally this is not an issue but if your machine has any power issues you will notice this.
Price wise the smaller is normally cheaper.
If you think you need the larger set or think you might ever need the larger set then it is cheaper to get the larger set rather then having to buy a second set later.
I own an 8" stacked and have used the extra capacity and do my own table inserts. Works out fine for me, for you that will have to be your call. Anyway no issues that can't be over come using the larger set.
