I just finished polishing a bunch of parts on my second 10ER refurbursh using my first 10ER in drill press mode using a brass wire wheel and when I put my hand on the motor it was almost too hot to touch. I had been using it for about an hour without a break. Is this normal or do I have an issue I need to address. I did not replace the bearing when doing the rebuild as they were smooth and quiet.

I believe that you do have an issue. Check the voltage at the motor to be sure that is adequate and you do not have a voltage drop. Also when the motor stops make sure that you can hear the centrifugal switch reset.
All electric motors have a passage for air to move over the stator windings, make sure that they are not blocked. Another thing to check are the bearings. I bought a lthe about two years ago that the spindle got too hot to touch within 15 minutes of running. It sat in a garage for 5 or 6 years before I got it and one bearing was apparently dry although it felt real good.
An ammeter check of the current draw when it is running can also tell a lot about the condition of the motor windings.
Let us know what you find.

Do a smell test on the motor. If no burnt or nasty smell, you should be good. As long as you did not get an immediate blister from touching the motor, you should be good. I would suggest keeping the power cord as short as possible and insure the motor is grounded using a 3 prong plug.
