Jigsaw (old Magna) issue and question

This thread refers to an issue I am having with an old model jigsaw. I got it a couple of years ago with a SS and just now decided to put it in service (read: play with it)
I have assembled it, so far no oil leaks and aside from the upper support issues, all works fine.
Attach. 1 is the jigsaw:

The upper support has two concentric tube; one supports the back of the blade and other surrounds it like BS guides. Both tubes are held by individual setscrews.

Attach. 2 is the support I am referring to.

My problem is that the smallest support tube that has a slit in it to surround the blade (attach 3) can be tighten without bending one side of it against the blade.

Let me explain better: If I tight the setscrew enough for the small tube not to wander around it will force one side of the slit against the blade.

My take is either the tube has weaken and/or the slit is to large, with just a quarter inch at the end of the tube should suffice.

Questions (if you have a similar JS)

1) Is your small tube slit so large as in my photo?

2) Have you experience similar problems?

I am planning in making one on my own,

3) What material is it (best guess)?

PS: You'll notice the upper support body is cracked, I'll deal with that later.

In attachment #2, is the tube that the smaller tube fits in, the top bolt hole cover cracked?

Yes, it's cracked and will need repair but that setscrew is the one that holds the outer tube. The setscrew on the left side (not cracked) holds the small cut tube.

What type of set screw is securing the inner tube? It should be a half dog type, that is it should have a protruding tip with a flat head that fits in the groove of the outer tube and only contacts the inner tube.

Yes, the setscrew is a you describe and goes through the larger tube as intended.

I looked at the drawing for the parts and in it the inner tube has just a short cut for the blade, is it my imagination?
See part 36 in the attached drawing. The slit in my inner tube is much longer and probably weakens the part.

To insert a photo image:

After clicking Browse and then Upload on the Manage Attachments screen, click the down arrow next to the Paper Clip. Select the image you want and then Click On the Paperclip AGAIN. This imbeds the image into the text of your message.

If you click on "Save Changes" in the Manage Attachments screen, you will post a reference to your image instead (as seen below).

Now - Back to setscrews and Jigsaws. Sorry about the short detour but you did ask.

Let me try. I actually read the instructions several times and I can't see the paper clip : ((

My manage attachments screen does not have a paper clip. See my attachment (again!)

I have one just like yours. It's a pretty versatile tool, but alignment can be complicated -- lots of things are adjustable.

For your problem, you need to align the small casting that holds the tubes in question. My somewhat dim recollection is that you loosen the bolt on the underside of the vertical sliding hex post, and this allows the casting to rotate. Orient the casting so that the tube is centered on the blade, and re-tighten the bolt. That should fix you up.

The paperclip is on the toolbar of the edit reply to thread screen.

Don't give up. You are almost there.
